Basic Information
Anatomy
Drakin feet end with three strong talon-like claws with a fourth claw in the back, while their hands are similar to humans with four fingers with claw like nails at the tip with a thumb tipped with a claw. A Drakin's head is more human like in shape with a strong brow, their skin coloured like the dragon they are descendants of with a few scales around the chests and forehead and sometimes the chin and reptilian frills on the ears.
Growth Rate & Stages
Young Drakin are hatched from eggs like other Dragons and then they grow at an impressively rapid rate, reaching the equivalent maturity of a human child of 10 by age 3. Drakin nurse their hatchlings for several months before teeth begin to come in. A Drakin will then be slowly introduced to soft food and then move towards normal Drakin eating habits, which contain more meat than is typical of most other races.
The rate of maturation slows dramatically within a few years and are not considered physically mature until the age 12, when Drakin bodies reach their adult height and appearance. Not all Drakin develop a breath weapon but those whom do usually obtain it during these years of growth.
Behaviour
Drakin have a well-known dedication to honour, all Drakin tend to view all living things, even hated enemies, as deserving of courtesy and respect. To Drakin, honour is more than a word and often considered more important than life itself. However they are deemed the most peaceful of all races and will avoid fighting and war at all costs even if that may be deemed as dishonorable to other races they deem walking away as a mark of respect for life of others and therefore honorable.
The draconic nature of Drakin give them a strong self-consciousness and a tendency for strong emotions. These combine to make Drakin wanting of the approval of others.
Drakin place great value on the skill of an individual, including themselves. Failing at a task is unheard of to a Drakin and as a result they can sometimes push themselves to unhealthy extremes of effort. This driven approach to life is what has lead to the rise of magi tech with Drakin being the driving force behind the innovation.
Other races see Drakin as proud even arrogant because of this dedication to excellence and high standards. Drakin are also more than willing to recognise with respect the accomplishments of other races in turn.
More so than other races, Drakin often wear their hearts on their sleeves, typically hiding neither anger nor joy. Only a handful of Drakin actually demonstrate traits that might be considered timid or reserved, and the vast majority of the race have no qualms asking for what they need or taking time to improve themselves.
Civilization and Culture
Culture and Cultural Heritage
The Drakin drive for honour carries on into the culture of the race. Among Drakin, the most horrible crime is oath-breaking; honesty is expected whenever a deal is struck. Commitment to a word is expected to be carried out to the letter and all parties in a transaction are held accountable and responsible for failings. Ultimately, those who fail to meet their word are expected to accept the consequences and, in fact, most Drakin do
Like Dwarves, Drakin are practical about the arts. Few items are created for purely artistic reasons, instead having a functional purpose behind them. Despite this, like the Dwarves, Drakin arts are not at all ugly or mundane in appearance and Drakin craftsmen take time and care in creating new works. As pieces representative of the skill of a craftsman, Drakin art pieces often possesses a distinctive flair that was draconic or elemental in nature and they are often embroidered with jewels or precious metals but in a more subltle way than the lavish pieces Dwarves create.
Like the Drakin approach to art, the race's attitude towards leisure activities is very practical, and when Drakin aren’t at work, they are often engaged in sports with a training component to them. Often competitive, these sports often lacked teams, with the most popular games ending in victory for one, clear winner.
Not all Drakin sports are so physical, many are also fond of strategic board games, rap battles, or roast battles (stand up comedy). In all cases, the Drakin emphasis for recreation is on the triumph of the individual and the improvement of practical skills.
They are also massively intellectual as a society and will often note reading as a hobby but almost always acedmic factual reading and less fantasy and fiction.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
While Humans are their forefathers, Drakin tend to avoid them. It is less about a hatred of Humans and more a distrust after their behaviour during the 100 year war which Drakin deemed unnecessary and on par with why the Orc were banished.
Drakin are closest to Dwarves because they admire their work ethos and commitment as well as their brutal and direct honesty, even if they do not approve of their heavy drinking.
They used to be close with Kobolds but after Drakin left the Human cities, they realised they were treating Kobolds the way Humans treated others. So the Drakin sent the Kobolds to find their own way and have not really heard from them since.
Other races Drakin get on fairly well with and on the whole have no issues with.
