Frostburn: A Treatise on Monstrous and Magical Creatures of the Frozen North

By Dolin Marsh

This book describes some of the powers and abilities, as well as weaknesses of many creatures of the frozen wastes.

Chapter 6: Winter Wolves

Winter wolves typically hunt in packs. Their size, and cunning allow them to hunt and kill creatures much larger than themselves. A pack usually circles an opponent, each wolf attacking in turn to exhaust it. If they’re in a hurry, white wolves try to pin their foes. Winter Wolves have resistance to cold. They are vulnerable to fire however. Winter wolves have a devastating breath weapon which should be avoided at all costs. It has been known to flash freeze men into ice in an instant. Their bite is also fearsome, and does cold damage as well. Winter wolves are intelligent creatures, and some can and will speak to other sentient beings. Winter wolves have a particular affinity to the meat of large ungulates such as moose, elk, bison, and megaloceros. They have even been known to take down mammoths.
