Alauthé (Ah-LAW-theh)

Alauthé is the goddess of Darkness and Shadow in Aetregyr and presides over the concepts of murder, caverns, torture, seduction, chaos, evil, and the shadar-kai. She is a chaotically evil-aligned intermediate deity, primarily worshipped by shadar-kai and some drow. Known as the Dark Princess, the Maiden of Terror, and the Laughing Killer, she is a vindictive and maniacal goddess, primarily concerned with indulging her wicked debauchery. She is the daughter of Vamaré, goddess of Death, and was one of the main participants in the Dusk War.

Alauthé is among the second generation of deities in Aetregyr. She is an intermediate power in the pantheon, outclassed by the greater deities, but much more powerful than many of her kind. On the surface, she is little-known, primarily worshipped by cultists, and otherwise spoken of only in relation to her mother. She is much more well-known by dwellers of the Underdark. Many drow not indoctrinated into the ways of Vamaré follow her, as she is seen as a viable alternative to her mother's worship. Moreover, Alauthé is the primary deity worhipped by the shadar-kai, who were Eladrin twisted by proximity to the Shadow Realm, which is her domain. In addition, many fey'ri, elves with demonic heritage, are drawn to the worship of the Maiden of Terror. In front of mortals, Vamaré appears as either a shadar-kai or a drow, depending on her circumstances and location.

Alauthé's clerics pray for their spells at dusk. They perform rites that may involve self-flagellation and/or self-gratification. Her followers seek instant gratification of all desires and probe the limits of physical and psychological excess. Their appetites are endless and insatiable, and power takes a distant second place to pleasure. The Dark Princess is not interested in mundane satisfaction but in the pursuit of pleasure through pain and excess.

Alauthé's Temples are indulgent and hedonistic, full of extravagant, lush, leather furniture and usually containing a dungeon of torture devices. They are dimly lit, usually with scented candles, meant to make it easy to hide one's face, and lose one's self in rich, enticing aromas. Her temples are filled with intoxicants, both legal and extra-legal, as well as poisons, and the line between the two is often blurred. Her churches are private in nature, with a public facing lobby, and a deeper, inner sanctum, accesible only to the true believers of her faith.

Piety

Following these tenets increases one's piety with Alauthé:

• Putting your own needs first above all
• Besting an honorable foe through deceit
• Indulging in something for pleasure, at the expense of social graces
• Twisting someone's mind for your own purposes

Performing one of these sacrileges decreases one's piety with Alauthé:

• Being caught off-guard
• Taking anything too seriously
• Backing down when you have the upper hand
• Bringing order in times of chaos

The Laughing Killer's Devotee

Piety 3+ Alauthé trait

As a devotee of Alauthé, you have shown yourself to be a sadistic jester in the same vein as the Laughing Killer. You can call on Vamaré’s favor to cast hideous laughter with this trait, a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

The Maiden of Terror's Acolyte

Piety 10+ Alauthé trait

You can cast crown of madness with this trait. Once you cast the spell in this way, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

In addition, as a bonus action you can direct one creature charmed by crown of madness that you can see to use its reaction to move up to its speed in any direction.

The Dark Princess' Disciple

Piety 25+ Alauthé trait

You have been broken to the point where you cannot be pushed further. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.

Death's Daughter's Champion

You can increase your Dexterity or Intelligence score by 2 and also increase your maximum for that score by 2.
