Torog the Crawling King (TOE-rog)

One of the Diabolical Ones. Torog is the cruel and eternally suffering god of torture, prisoners, jailers, pain and torment. Residing only within the dark crevices of the world. Upon the Divergence, he was banished into the Astral Sea.   Torog, the Crawling King, is an evil god of torturers, slavers, and jailers. His worshippers are those who take others' freedom and creatures living in the darkness below. It is said that pathways under the world are the result of his tears of pain and anger, and his realm is a network of deadly caves and manacles. He was defeated during the Calamity by the the Dawnfather and the Repentant Bastard.   As the patron god of slavers and jailers, the Crawling King offers guidance to those who rob others of freedom. The Crawling King is a jealous god, and he will seek to destroy any rivals that try to challenge the Crawling King's rule over the domains of torture and imprisonment.   Since being sealed away by the Prime Deities, the Crawling King has never truly healed from the wounds he suffered. Every attempt to leave his prison is a torturous attempt on his permanently broken body. As the god of torturers, he takes inspiration from each failed attempt as new ways to inflict pain on mortals.

Worshippers

His worshippers are those that take freedom away from others - thus his following is made up of those who torture, enslave and jail others. Tyrants, despots and those that claim to be mightier or more powerful than others. They call themselves the Pains, or the Godbranded.   Common superstition holds that if a mortal speaks the name "Torog", the Crawling King himself will burrow up from below and drag the hapless mortal to an eternity of imprisonment and torture in the Underdark.

Personal History

Little is known about the Crawling King before he emerged from the endless tunnels and caverns of the Underdark beneath Aetheus. But what is known is that he is an evil and cruel being, who believed himself greater than others due to the pain in which he suffers and revels in. When the gods created the mortals and gave them free will, he did not grant his permission - he wished to share his greatest gift with them, pain and torment, and in recompense he asked for their freedom. It is said that the pain he suffers is the ultimate freedom, and the ultimate expression of feeling alive.   It is said that the one thing that he covets the most, is the Pact Primeval. For he wishes to bring constant pain to all beings - to rid them from the heavens and commit them into an eternal torment from which he will subjugate them all, bind them and break them for eternity.   A warrior once attempted to strike down Torog with his army, but his army was defeated and Torog captured and tortured the warrior, turning him into a champion of pain.   In his domain within the Underdark, within his kingdom of pain and suffering - he discovered portals and gateways into the Far Realm; and those that traversed through, were the Illithid. He trapped and captured the Elder Brains of these creatures and treated them to his most heinous and exciting torture - collecting further trophies alongside Laduguer and the Duergar.   It is known that the Halfling god Maevericki had snuck into his underground domain, and managed to free thousands enslaved within his kingdom - and frustratingly, left a flower vase with candied chocolates as a note of his passing. Leaving Torog enraged and hateful of the Halflings.   During the Calamity, Pelor and Maevericki defeated Torog by luring him above ground Pelor pierced his body with 10000 lances of sunlight. Torog's violent tears carved the pathways under the world, and his followers fled into those tunnels to escape the light. Maevericki then banished him to a sliver of the Far Realm that now borders the deepest pits (or the very base) of the Underdark, "where the boundaries between the worlds grow thin".

Physical Appearance

Torog is largely depicted as a swollen, malformed worm slithering through the darkness below with a hairless human head at the helm, three arms carving through a lightless rock.
