Cordis

Begotten of the Mountain

During the time of great debate Cordis was on the side to support the humans. It was the largest side to be sure, but numbers dwindled with time. His alley and closest friend was Kalarock who was next in line for a seat on the Arkaic counsel. He too shared in his beliefs. So much so, that he went down to live among them for a time. While he was gone there was a push for power. Without Kalarock to fill the seat, the Arketts were about to place one who was against the humans. Thankfully the seat fell to Cordis, though in his heart he felt it belonged to Kalarock. Some time later his friend returned and, to his surprise and joy, he brought his family. Though Cordis welcomed them with an embrace, the rest of the people did not. He knew what they thought of his friend. In their eyes, Kalarock was a deserter who mingled with a human whore. He did not marry by their traditions, and the fact that it was a lowly human didn’t help matters. Worst of all was the child they carried. Arketts did not believe in joint conception with humans. Those creatures were beneath them. There had been accounts in the past of birthings and all ended in diaster. Cordis did not approve of these insults and forbade any aggression against Kalarock and his family. In his eyes his friend’s new family was a testament to the peace that was possible. Though there was no open scorn, he could tell it was still there. On the day of the name giving he was one of the few people who attended the door. When they came out there was a chill in their countenance. According to Kalarock his son wasn’t given a name. Something about hybrids and not having pure Arkaic blood. The few who attended left in disgust. Only Cordis remained. He knew his friend too well. Everything he said had been a lie. He didn’t press the matter but questioned in his heart what it could have been. Kalarock and Scarlett returned to the lower plain where they stayed for many years. He would come down to visit them on occasion. Over the years his standings did not change. In fact he was rallying more and more to the human’s cause. Unfortunately so was the opposition. He did his best to keep the debates peaceful, but with the occasional extremists, the divisions grew wider and wider. Then something happened down below that lit the spark. The village Kalarock founded as a mutual residency of humans and Arketts was attacked and destroyed. His son was taken and they could not find him for a year. Once they did they returned to the arkettes. This was the spark to ignite the anti-human movement. Plans began to be set in motion of ways to extinguish the humans without harming the world or its life. To their eyes it was a way of maintaining the covenant, while preserving their own life and guaranteeing their freedom. Cordis was against this. in years of followed he did everything he could to keep his people from moving forward with their plans of genocide. However, as an Arklord, He had a responsibility to his people. In time he led his forces in the defense of his people. Among his subordinates was the Sun of the mouning and Kalarock's son. He grew fond of his friends son. He saw the hardships he faced and yet he had the remarkable ability to hold onto the good. Over time he sensed a bond between him and his daughter. Though she was betrothed to the Sun of the morning Cordis didn't believe in such traditions. On the battlefield he suffered a grave wound. He never thought that he would die so soon. If he were to die, Skyra would be left alone. Thinking about it, hr couldn’t help feeling pain in his heart. Remorse filled him for not keeping his daughter company more often in the past. Jarock was by his side and he asked him to take care of her and keep her smile bright. When his final testament was read he declared his daughter free of all obligations including the arranged marriage.
