Glynrel (G-lin-rel)
A Gentle Feather's Deadly Force.
This section includes information regarding House M'ithai's heirloom, Glynrel.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Details: Glynrel is a 12-inch lantern with double-fortified saer walls surrounding the inner light. The entire lantern is made of white metal. It is the heirloom of House M'ithai and should only be wielded by them unless instructed otherwise. Great care must be taken when wielding Glynrel due to the immense and deadly power it withholds within its core. The lantern's defining feature is a singular feather from the legendary but extinct avian creature, the T'wiphray, an enormous bird to soar the skies. It was quickly used during the War of Faith's where the lantern created a strong wave of light, forcing the Forsaken Commander and the darkness she brought with her away from the kingdom, weakening her immensely. The feather is incredibly gentle but severely deadly against elves and creatures alike. It is so dangerous that it could turn an entire civilisation to ash if revealed for too long. The light never fades, but it is securely contained within Glynrel.
Components:
- Size: 12-inches tall and 6-inches wide.
- Handle: A thin white metallic ringed handle.
- Frame: Strong metal frames, well-welded and finished by silver powdered coating.
- Shape: A rectangle-shape with a pointed cut-off at the bottom (similar to the point of a diamond).
- Inner Wall: Strong and tempered thick glass panes surrounding the core in the shape of a rectangular box. This layer is so strong that it doesn't allow the light to escape, withholding it within.
- The Core: The feather of the legendary avian species, the T'wiphray, is securely fastened inside a glass box.
- Inner Clips: Attached to the top and rear of the glass box are two clips that pinch the feather in place, ensuring it stands upright.
- Outer Wall: Double-layered white metal (thick) with strong stability surrounding the inner boxed glass panes.
- Keyhole: At the front of the lantern are two metal panes that act as doors, secured with a small keyhole that only the mantle bearer of House M'ithai has the key to.
- Blinding Light: Glynrel withholds immense power that can blind anyone or anything and turn entire civilisations to ash.
History
- Glynrel's Light (146 NE): During the War of Faiths, House M'ithai of Aethel Caeloria used their house's heirloom to warden away the darkness that infested their lands through the Lantern of Glynrel; the last light of the mythical Twi'phray, reaching past the Great Kingdom and vanquishing the Ashen and Vivaleth to the depths of shadow. Lyrei survived the Dale's Disgrace and fought alongside her brother, Imazeal, who wielded Glynrel and gave the Great kingdom, Aethel Caeloria, a second chance at life.
- The Inconsolable Forlorn (2 VO): Imazeal M'ithai fought during the Inconsolable Forlorn beside Naerynidam Tythal; they became good friends. Imazeal fought with his late sister's weapon, a broadsword and brought it into all battle with him as a way to remember her courage in the face of danger. Imazeal fought bravely, with his people following behind him.
- Bloodbane's Ferocity (23 VO): Naerynidam wielded this blade and fought a mighty battle, becoming a vital part of history, winning in the struggle, Bloodsbane's Ferocity. Imazeal M'ithai followed in his footsteps, ensuring he covered his back as a friend would do. The two fought their way through the war, leading their people to victory.
- Battle of The Blue Mountain (25 VO): After surviving Bloodsbane's Ferocity, Imazeal fought in the Battle of the Blue Mountain, silencing the Ashen and Forsaken Commanders for eternity. He was hailed a hero upon his return to Phiseqar and Ciavala.
Significance
Glynrel withholds a blinding singular feather of the legendary creature, the T'wiphray, which was alive during the creation of Caede Galair but went extinct during 2999 NE. Nyzai M'ithai was the first descendant of the M'ithai bloodline but was never noted in history due to being blinded by the feather and dying at an incredibly young age. When hunting in the unnamed forests beneath the great mountain, Nyzai M'ithai and Miha Aalarelai came upon an eerie yet bright area where no living organism could be seen. As the two approached the light, Nyzai realised the feather was becoming brighter and brighter to an unbearable point. He protected Miha Aalarelai during the hunt shielding the king with his own body but facing the full force of the excessive dazzling light radiating from the feather. Nyzai requested that his dear friend, Miha Aalarelai, make a lantern appropriate for the feather on his deathbed. Saddened by the death of his closest friend, Miha created a carefully crafted lantern that was made explicitly around the deadly feather of the legendary creature, forming two parts and ensuring the light would never again blind another soul. As a gesture of friendship and appreciation for Nyzai, King Miha ensured that if Nyzai's bloodline ever founded a house within the lands of Aethel Caeloria in the future, Glynrel would be passed over to them as their rightful ancestral heirloom.
In 1675 NE, House M'ithai was founded, and Glynrel was rightfully passed over to Ailas and Fayethai M'ithai, the first elves to lead. The lantern has belonged to House M'ithai ever since.
Glynrel: Glynrel is the sacred heirloom of House M'ithai but lives within the Ivory Orchid Tavern as a gesture of good faith. The firstborn of each reign from the M'ithai line become the successors of the heirloom.
Imazeal M'ithai: Imazeal is the most revered elf within House M'ithai's history, having used Glynrel against the Forsaken Commander, Vivaleth, who brought darkness to all the lands. He wielded and used Glynrel against Vivaleth as a means of protecting the high elves, giving them a fighting chance once more. He later became a figurehead and national treasure, forging a friendship with House Tythal during battle and in times of need. His death was a sad period for all, but it is rumoured that his brave sacrifice lives on through the M'ithai bloodline.
Glynrel's Light (146 NE): During the War of Faiths, House M'ithai of Aethel Caeloria used their house's heirloom to warden away the darkness that infested their lands through the Lantern of Glynrel; the last light of the mythical Twi'phray, reaching past the Great Kingdom and vanquishing the Ashen and Vivaleth to the depths of shadow. Imazeal M'ithai wielded Glynrel and gave the Great kingdom, Aethel Caeloria, a second chance at life. He is also the only elf to have faced the Forsaken Commander, Vivaleth, head-on without turning to evil. The light of Glynrel protected him from her dark clutches. The light of Glynrel caught her unsuspectingly and forced both her and the darkness out of the kingdom, weakening her immensely.
