This section includes information regarding House Tythal's heirloom, Bloodsbane.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Details: Bloodsbane is a 47-inch longsword featuring a 35 1/4" stainless steel blade and solid metal hilt parts. It is the heirloom of House Tythal and can only be effectively wielded by elves of that bloodline. The sword's defining feature is that it illuminates dark blue to symbolise the blood it slew during the War of Faiths. It features a solid and smooth saer blade with an Aegean blue leather-wrapped hilt. The sword mercilessly preys upon the ill-hearted, giving the wielder a power fix.   Components:
  • Pommel: Solid metal tear drop-shape.
  • Hilt: An underlay of golden leather with slits of velvet Aegean blue and black on the grip.
  • Crossguard: A curved crossguard featuring a central clear purple jewel known as 'Nihilavara.' Surrounding the gem in a circle is a R'ianvantra runic inscription of House Tythal's motto, 'Sworn by the Sword.'
  • Blade: A stainless saer blade at 47-inches long.
  • Fuller: Two identical hexagonal fillers with a vertical gold patterned engraving.
  • Edge: Sharp at the slightest touch.
  • Central Ridge: A faint line running through the centre of the blades.
  • Point: A spear-point blade. The point is in line with the central ridge of the double-edged symmetrical blade.
  • Scabbard: A brown leather scabbard with golden patterns engraved on the outside, taking the form of thorns on a stem. It has leather straps attached to a brown leather belt, solid metal collar, fittings, buckles, and a tip with an antiqued metal finish. It is 48 inches long with a tight and secure fit.
Abilities:
  • Illumination: The hexagonal fullers of the sword illuminate dark blue when an elf or creature is killed, adding power to the hands of the wielder.

History

  • Blood Waters Gap (209 NE): Bloodsbane was wielded by Naerynidam Tythal and utilised alongside his sister Eren.
  • Glynrel's Light (146 NE): During the War of Faiths, House M'ithai of Aethel Caeloria used their house's heirloom to warden away the darkness that infested their lands through the Lantern of Glynrel; the last light of the mythical Twi'phray. Heleynore Tythal assisted House M'ithai in their efforts forging a tight friendship. Naerynidam Tythal wielded Bloodsbane for this.
  • The Inconsolable Forlorn (2 VO): Naerynidam Tythal fought during the Inconsolable Forlorn and survived. He managed to face the Ashen head-on with the help of his kin and people who refused to let the fort fall to darkness, using Bloodsbane to destroy his enemies.
  • Bloodbane's Ferocity (23 VO): Naerynidam later fought with his ancestor's heirloom, Bloodsbane, a longsword. Bloodsbane was only supposed to be used as a ceremonial sword during Dihavanor Aalarelai's reign. However, upon the War of Faith's arrival, it changed to become one of the most revered weapons that managed to turn the tide and give hope to the high elves of Aethel Caeloria. It radiates light blue when it kills a foe. As a result, the sword is aligned with two thin outlines around the hexagonal fuller that illuminates dark blue to symbolise the blood it slew during the war. Naerynidam wielded this blade and fought a mighty battle, becoming a vital part of history, winning in the battle, Bloodsbane's Ferocity.
  • Battle of The Blue Mountain (25 VO): After surviving Bloodsbane's ferocity, Naerynidam fought in the Battle of the Blue Mountain, silencing the Ashen and Forsaken Commanders for eternity. He was hailed a hero upon his return to Epanon and Veeano.
After the Battle of the Blue Mountain had ended, King Dihavanor and House Tythal agreed that the heirloom should be placed within the Ivory Orchid as a gesture of good faith between the two houses.

Significance

Formerly a ceremonial sword, Bloodsbane later became used as a longsword during the War of Faith's and has been considered a revered weapon ever since. Bloodsbane is highly significant to House Tythal as it is their sacred heirloom. It can only be effectively utilised by someone within the bloodline of House Tythal, giving the wieldier a heightened sense of power when it faintly illuminates. To any other, Bloodsbane is just a sword, but a precious one.
Bloodsbane: Bloodsbane is the sacred heirloom of House Tythal but lives within the Ivory Orchid Tavern as a gesture of good faith. The firstborn of each reign from the Tythal line become the successors of the heirloom.
Naerynidam Tythal: Naerynidam is the most revered elf within House Tythal's history, having wielded Bloodsbane through many wars, powering the sword up with his enemies' blood protecting the lands of his people. He became a figurehead for many and a national treasure, solidifying the gap between House Tythal and House M'ithai by forging a friendship during battle and in times of need. His death was a sad period for all within the lands of Aethel Caeloria, but it is said his courage lives on through the Tythal bloodline.
