Mask of the Deep Ones
Mask of the Deep Ones
Wondrous Item
Legendary Wearing of it for 24 hours.
Truesight. The mask bestows the ability of Truesight in the wearer. They can use this up to 120 feet. No magical, supernatural or mundane ability can prevent the wearer seeing any creature or item that is disguised or hidden.
Breath of the Star Gods.. The mask allows the wearer to breathe in any environment, whether in poison gas, water, or lack of atmosphere. They automatically pass any saving throws against these or attacks based on them.
Magical Armour. The mask gives a +1AC to saves from all attacks, and a successful Wisdom roll of DC 17 will act as a Counter Spell.
Dreams of Ancient Times. After wearing the mask for 3 hours, the wearer starts to experience vivid dreams of a strange nature. Linking into the mind of ancient primordial entities, they see the world as if they are an Aberration worshipping the Star Gods. These bizarre dreams causes the wearer to slowly connect to the Far Realm as well, and forces a DC 18 Wisdom roll every morning when waking. If failed they take one damage to their Wisdom stat as their mind is eroded from the inside out. On a successful roll they take one level of Exhaustion. Only by refusing to wear the mask corresponding to one month per one use, they are fully cured of this. Only one roll to begin with and one roll 28 days later. If worn multiple times and 3 failed saves will cause them to fall under the sway of Star God cults in one form or another.
The Mask of the Deep Ones is an ancient mask made from clay rumoured to be from the city of R'Leyh, along with a moonstone that has been took into the Far Realms and brought back to the Material Plane. Containing the essence of the Star Gods and their related kin, it gives sight to those looking the true nature of things, and the breath to those looking to worship those temples buried deep in dangerous environments.
Having lying in the crypts of the legendary temple of the Church Under the Sea, it was brought to the surface with a few similar items, it has been gifted to a cult in central Europe. The Star Spawn Seer that provided it regularly imparts such items to devoted Star God followers, and regularly checks that such gifts are properly used. Woe to anyone who would abuse such a gift, damage it, destroy it, or lose it.
