Avora, the Lady of Luck

Within the Dreamvale lay all things mortals have imagined and dreamed of, entities made entirely of belief and the demiplanes they control.

The Lady of Luck, her chosen name being Avora, is such a being. Probability, chance, and happenstance are her domain within the grand manor she commands at the edge of the veil. Formed into being by the collective idea formed by the mortal folk of the south and eastern Aesteria that luck has a physical, ladylike form, and bestows good and bad luck upon the people of the material plane. And so she is, a near goddess in ability, Avora exists to bestow good and bad luck to those she deems deserving.

Avora is delighted by her job, by her very existence, and finds ecstasy and power among long-shot odds and desperate chances. She bestows power to clerics and paladins looking to break her very rules and make the impossible become possible. She also bestows her power into Warlocks, those whose luck has run out may be met by Avora or one of her disciples and offered a position as an Omen.

Omens are Warlocks sequestered into roles of White or Black hats, sent out to fix missteps, miscalculations, and overlooked individuals by the Lady of Luck. They are cosmic correctors, either guardian angels who help a person's losing streak turn around, or agents of chaos set to tumble houses of cards or even kill those who steal too much from the Pool.

The Pool is the most closely guarded secret, as close as Avoras Manor. The Demiplane of Luck and the Grey Manor are heavily warded, only the invited may enter unless they utilise some of the most powerful of magics. It's said by the few that have been within and left the service of the Lady, that she spends most of her time at the Pool. Underneath the manor, is a large mass of silver, starlight, liquid. A mix of astral and dream energy, more potent than essence and infused with the pure power of the Lady of Luck, the pool is Cosmic Chance. Reports say the pool steadily drains as mortals use their luck, refilling at almost the same rate. It is when the pool may overflow or drains too fast that the lady sends her agents to the sources of such discrepancies.

What is known are the Great Games. Avora invites, once a season, grand players to the Manor. Those most loyal, most strange, most chaotic, most lawful. Mortals who have drank heartily from the pool or avoided her Omens. The Great Games are a series of cosmic gambling and betting games, where individuals can play cards with the masters of fate for heaps of coin, trade soils in games of dice, and place bets upon cosmic events. It is said that no matter the outcome, Avoras influence grows and her house always wins.

Omens are often left to their own devices on how they solve the people they are sent after. They receive their targets through different means, ones the Lady finds amusing - daggers with names that point towards the target, familiars who speak and track the ones they are meant to correct. Some form small groups, paying the groups to assist them. Others join with adventuring parties, trusting lady Luck to give them targets near to them. All are drifters to a degree, whether they be black or white hats they move where the Lady of Luck sends them. And all carry one thing in common - Coins of Equal Odds. These coins are handed to them by their patron, powerful magic items that can be used to unlock portals to the Grey Manor.
