The Doorway

Within each mortals soul is the Doorway. A space not truly real and not truly false. It is the portal to the essence of the world, to magic, where it flows from wherever one derives the source into the very being of the creature and allows them interact with the world in the way of the arcane - either through ritual, blood, or prayer.

The Doorway is unique to each individual. It always a doorway, though its appearance varies from person to person. Difficult to find and even more difficult to pass through unharmed, the other side is determined by the source of the persons magic. For some it is where they speak with the being who helped open the door, for others it is a churning place of magic.

All creatures have the ability to cast spells by opening the door, though the difficulty of opening and unlocking the door can be difficult for some. It requires strength of will to even reach the point where one can truly find it within themselves. Opening it and allowing the essence of the universe to flow within, and correctly using said essence to perform magic, is equally if not more difficult without proper training.

Stepping through the doorway without help from the other side can be dangerous. The Astral Hand recommends not attempting to step through without proper training or, if one is connected to a being beyond, an invitation or help.

Often one can more easily find the Doorway in moments of peace. Restful sleep lets a mind more easily interact with the soul, and many recommend meditation for attempting it during the waking hours. Otherwise, moments of extreme stress can also allow the door to open or even let more essence to flow through its portal.
