Lyrie's Research
Krune (pronounced KROON) was the last runelord of sloth and ruler of the realm of Haruka. While not as violent as other Thassilonian rulers (generally attributed to his laziness), Krune was not to be trifled with as he was the chief priest of the goddess
Lissala. None of his enemies wanted to risk the ire of a man who had truly mastered rune magic as they did not know the limits of his power.
Krune began studying conjuration in the Great Temple of Lissala in Bakrakhan, eventually becoming Lissala's high priest in -5530 AR and a favoured counsellor of Runelord Ivarinna. Ivarinna chose him as her successor, and peacefully relinquished her title to him in -5525 AR. During Krune's reign, Haruka was largely free of war, and the cult of Lissala rose in prominence, coming into conflict with the cult of the Peacock Spirit, which was well-established in Haruka before Krune's reign.
Description
Krune is an apparently middle-aged human man with no hair, a short and stocky build, and beady eyes. He is tattooed all over his body with hundreds of runes and spell formulas. He wears fine gray robes and carries his symbol of office, a dragon-tooth spear, at all times.
Biography
Reign
Krune is unusual among the runelords in that he did not seize power through violence. He began his career as a student of conjuration at the Great Temple of Lissala, eventually becoming high priest and the favored counselor of his predecessor Runelord Ivarinna. Ivarinna eventually chose to abdicate and peacefully passed her title to Krune.
Krune reigned for 232 years and retained his position of high priest throughout that time. His realm of Haruka was largely peaceful during his reign, though his promotion of the Church of Lissala brought some conflict with the cult of the Peacock Spirit, a previously popular faith. Krune was generally seen as the least violent and tyrannical runelord of his time. However, this was due to Krune’s laziness rather than any sort of moral character in his part. Under his rule, Haruka was built and maintained on the backs of countless slaves, a regime which he had every intention of restoring to modern Varisia.
Powers and Abilities
Krune is one of the weakest runelords, but this is purely relative - he is still an extremely powerful wizard. He is a high-level conjurer, specializing in the summoning of monsters and the creation of matter. In combat, Krune summons monsters, creates barriers, and throws acid, all while teleporting as often as possible to evade his enemies. His weapons are enchanted to move and attack on their own to spare him the physical effort of fighting. As a Thassilonian wizard, Krune’s magic is highly specialized. His focus on conjuration leaves him unable to use evocation or illusion magic.
Like all the runelords, Krune is biologically immortal. He does not age and cannot get sick, though he has no special protection from violent death.
