Place of Power
A place of power is essentially any place pervaded with magic. It matters not if this magic comes from the weave, from elemental planes, from the creation of the world such as the power in the Depths, from powerful creatures such as dragons or gods, from other planes, or directly from the Principle plane. Though it must be noted that the latter would generally result in a place where things spontaneously come into or fade from existence, these things need not be magical but its creation or destruction usually is.
The Green Mist Woods contain the Mists that were once classified as a place of power.
It is rumored that an elemental node of air resides beyond or inside the Windy Wastes.
Examples
As long as the place is saturated with magic it will almost always take on the form of a place of power. One of the most notable places of power is a Surge Cave, which is an underground wild magic zone created by a local weak point in the barrier between a plane and the weave. Other notable places are elemental nodes. Historically the Lands of Mist were also considered a place of power, but the mist was too unpredictable to be of any practical use. As the Mists receded their incorporation in any literary work on places of power also disappeared.Uses
A place of power is most valuable to enchanters and mages trying to create exceptionally powerful effects that they normally would not be capable of. Places of Power naturally tune things inside it to the weave. For objects this means they open up to accept a connection to the weave. An object opened up to the weave can enchanted with greater ease or to a greater extent. This is because what an enchanted item does is access the weave to invoke a predetermined (through enchanting) magical effect. The enchanted item isn't the source of the magic, it is simply a programmed conduit. Some civilizations managed to create contraptions that tapped into the places of power. One example are the fire turrets of the forgotten fortress of Yal-Zamog. This fortress was created around an elemental node of fire. Its primary defense were turrets that tapped into the node, channeling the all consuming blaze through specialized crystals to generate extremely destructive beams of fire that could melt stone. The node eventually faded and the fortress lost its usefulness but the technology survived, for a while.Current known locations
