Molik

Molik is a hive of corruption, indulgence, and vanity. The city employs fairly high taxes and gets away with it by keeping the routes that avoid the city just dangerous enough that traders keep going through Molik. Though not entirely unfair, the taxes are too much given that nearly every collector has a security detail that will most certainly find a reason to demand a little extra or else. As a result there are many smugglers who know how to get things through Molik with as little taxes as possible, and lots of hirelings that provide security to a merchant that wants to avoid the city.   Molik is officially ruled by Duke Roarian Ovesten but his daughters and their husbands do most of the actual ruling.

Molik is split in roughly 3 parts. The old south, the bustling west, and the modern east.

The old south

The old south used to be the center of Molik during the early days. The government buildings there were largely torn down during the revolution, the main exception was the Southern Library, which for unknown reasons was left untouched. The part of town covers most of the southern half of the city. It has bad and less bad neighborhoods. The further east you go the better the neighborhoods, the closer to the southwest you go the worse it gets. After the revolution this part of town was rebuilt by the common rabble and they did a shoddy job. Most buildings here have a small stone base, usually the rubble of the old proper buildings, then its all wood up from there. Building interiors often follow odd shapes as people built and expanded their houses in any way they could. Most of the wider streets here are overshadowed by second floors of buildings that are built half over the street, leaving only a small 5-10ft gap for sunlight to fall through.

The bustling west

The bustling west is the new center of commerce in Molik. This part of town covers the northwest side of town and most of the city center. It spreads to both sides of the northern part of the central road that runs through Molik. It is unclear where the bustling west ends and the modern east begins. It is on this border between the two parts that most people live who want to be part of the social elites but just aren't. They are wealthy and have some power but they try too hard to be socially better than others.

The modern east

The modern east of Molik begins with the lower government buildings directly east of the city center. On the sides of the modern east lie buildings for the rich. A thin and simple stone wall forms the border between the modern east and the old south, protecting the rich from the poor.
