Azethians
Azethians are an ancient, highly intelligent people. Once part of a divine they are now spiritual fragments inhabiting mortal bodies.
A true Azethian is born in the Azeth Divinity under the rule and protection of Azethol and Azethuna, the Azethian Twins. Azethians have an incredible intellectual capacity and are masters of psychic abilities. They are slightly taller than Elves but have a similar posture and build. They share many physical characteristics with the Elves which is likely due to their similar origin. Unlike Elves they do require sleep, albeit for somewhat different reasons than other mortals. An Azethian sleeps to control its emotions. Without sleep they become cold and mean. If an Azethian goes without sleep for long enough they will go insane and likely turn to evil ways.
As an Azethian, no other kind of mortal compares to you. Your spirit is born from something greater than anything else born from the earth. At some point your spirit was part of Azeth, a major divine.
You and other Azethians believe Azeth was tricked by other divines to manifest itself in the mortal realm. They trapped Azeth there and subsequently tore Azeth apart into what became the first Azethian souls. The Elven overdeity, who was a long term friend of Azeth, gave your ancestors their bodies and gave life to the lands they would come to inhabit. An Azethian spirit is bound to the mortal realm by what you still see as a curse from the divines that tricked Azeth. Any Azethian that died had their spirit returned to an Azethian baby. Though they didn't remember much of their former life, they can retain fragments of memories and personality traits, helping them in their new life. An Azethian can live to be well over a thousand years old. An Azethian that dies of old age dies very slowly. They essentially fade away until their essence is small enough to escape deaths grasp as they break their own tether with their mortal body and escape to their divine realm. In their divine realm they live forever with their ancestors and their ascended kin. If an Azethian is somehow killed their spirit is said to be bound to the material plane as it searches for a new body. Just like a body has cells dying off and regenerating, so does the spiritual body of Azeth. Azethian spirits can reproduce like a spiritual mitosis. Likewise, Azehian spirits can truly die off if the collective deems it appropriate. The spirit, once departed from its body, can have peace in this. However, an Azethian that feels such a situation might be waiting after death will try to redeem (or "fix") their spirit or cling to life by any means necessary. In such a case the collective deems the Azethian as corrupted, like the body identifying a cancer. Azethians have an unparalleled hatred for Dwarves. The Azethians believe the main deity of the Dwarves led the conspiracy against Azeth.
