Social Structure

Like other races that were the result of the breeding of two or more others, Tieflings had no true culture they could call their own. However, there were many archetypal features of Tieflings that were not necessarily innate. This include their attitude regarding their heritage, and while some Tieflings embraced it, others were repulsed by it, forging the two most common stereotypes of Tieflings.   The former Tieflings, who were proud of their fiendish past, were often fascinated by the dark and sinister events that touched the world, but were not necessarily evil or inclined to perpetuate them. Some Tieflings of this type chose to use their knowledge of evil and their own fiendish abilities to thwart these dark plots and schemes. Others sought to learn more and to emulate these evil deeds.   Other Tieflings were ashamed or even frightened of their heritage and wished only to escape the shadow that lurked over them as a result. Some did this through constantly doing good, as though to make up for the evil that begot them. Others instead hid and tried to go unnoticed as they passed through the world, preferring to be ignored and forgotten than noticed and made a target because of their past.   While others were neither ashamed nor elated, choosing instead to persevere in order to reach their own goals regardless of heritage or history. These Tieflings often seek to look forward only, disavowing any inclination good or evil and finding truth in their individualism.   Regardless of their motivations, Tieflings often distrusted one another, sometimes even casting the same preconceptions on one another that others did on them. In spite of this, many secretly desired to have another Tiefling nearby, if only to experience some small kind of kinship. Some of these Tieflings gathered as partners-in-crime, while others were sought out by good Tieflings who hoped to redeem others of their species fallen.

Naming Traditions

Some Tiefling lines maintain their human surname from one generation to the other. For example, a Tiefling born into a family in Anor-Gotha might keep the name and traditions common with their ancestors from that country.   More frequently, Tieflings will adopt a name derived from the infernal language that reflects their fiendish heritage. This could include adopting their demon kin’s name as a surname, or making use of a single name that is an adaption from infernal language.   A recent trend among young Tieflings is to forsake both their family and infernal names in favor of a “virtue” name. These names reflect a virtue the Tiefling upholds our believes is their destiny.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Tieflings have no unified culture, and often carry on the cultural line of their family. Some Tiefling lines become very prominent the various countries of Aeris.

History

The first Tieflings were born when in the time of creation, infernal creatures seduced the High God's creations with the hopes of corrupting them. These first Tieflings would fight on the side of the Low Gods during the Clash of the Gods. Afterwards many of these Tieflings would go on to serve Moraphan centuries later, but the Tieflings born into the fledgling societies came into a world of confusion, fear, and mistrust. These folk had to deal with terrible persecution and this would inform the attitudes of many Tieflings for thousands of years to come. When Moraphan rose Tieflings faced Tieflings. The Tieflings who sought to dominate fought their kin who just simply wanted be allowed to live. Indeed Tieflings joined the Golden Alliance, and fought bravely in the battles to come. A notable hero of the Battle of the Red Fields was Karrus Vec'Liste, who joined Indigo Solspaer in her infiltration of Moraphan's lines.   Many Tieflings now are either lone travellers, parts of long bloodlines, tight knit families or hidden beyond society's eyes. They are as diverse and different as any species.
