Praetora

Praetora. The remains of the oldest empire on the face of Aeris, collapsing over the centuries they now face another rebellion that threatens to wipe Praetora from the map.

Structure

Praetora is a kingdom, currently ruled by a king. But the title of Emperor is still used in the case of Praetora's leader. Beneath the "Emperor" is a council of noble landholding advisors, with each of them having their own below them.

Culture

Praetora's culture is one of might and tradition. But not in the way might is shown by Anor-Gotha, or the traditions of the Anglicai noble houses. Praetora's might is shown by the ancient military doctrines and tactics that have stood the test of time, and their traditions passed down all the way from the Aerean Empire thousands of years ago and it's successor state the Praetoran Empire. The Aerean Empire's way of holding council to make decisions, and the Praetoran Empire's style of rule dominates Praetora for better or for worse.

Public Agenda

Crush the rebellion, restore the empire's glory

Assets

Massive armies, forts, and gold. But these coffers are being drained by the current rebellion

History

Founded in 388 AGC after the War of Falling Stars where the Praetoran Empire had one last push for continental dominance. The loss at Gothric's Way crippled the empire's government, and forced them to reorganize into a monarchal kingdom. They were forced to join the Val'Karan defensive pact. But when all this collapsed in the face of the Long Freeze, Praetora was tested. And the newly formed kingdom proved strong against the Drow invaders. This allowed Praetora to clamp down on power and down on it's citizens. After the Freeze Praetora rebuilt, but when the Norsean Empire arrived on their eastern shores in 811 AGC the Praetorans gave a weak defense and were forced to retreat. And again in 945 AGC Praetora was invaded. Praetora was crushed by the Elves, who claimed the capital Rova, ending the war in 950 AGC. At the same time the Dwem'vera Triumvirate pushed southward, claiming the coasts in the Little War. The poor treatment of the Praetoran people finally came to it's boiling point in 990 when citizens all over the "empire" rose up in arms against their overlords. The war was unorganized till a young woman by the name of Isabella the Red took the place at the head of the revolution. Even establishing a revolutionary government in the midst of the bloody conflict. Into the New Millennium the civil war has continued, with Praetora showing signs of full collapse. But the newly crowned Goliath, Emperor Constantine Kavagak, promises he can end the civil war and bring Isabella's head on a pike within the year.

Territories

Praetora holds the southeast corner of Val'Kara, and formerly controlled the entire south of the continent.

Military

The legions of Praetora stand as the Aerean Empire's did thousands of years ago. With infantry their main focus, their tactics are ancient and proven. Cavalry, and archers are also utilized to support the legions.

Technological Level

Praetora is slightly behind on the modern technologies, caught up in the midst of their civil war, but they now are trying to catch up. Emperor Kavagak has spurred forth the advancing of technology.

Religion

Praetora persecutes the worship of the Low Gods, and supports the worship of the High Gods with zealotry fervor.

Foreign Relations

Praetora is often held up as the enemy of the continent. After all the warmongering, invasions, massacres and atrocities committed by the Praetoran Empire, Praetora has kept that reputation and has bad relations with all nations on Val'Kara.

Agriculture & Industry

Praetora has strong agricultural and industrial power, but their civil war has crippled both of these, leading to massive numbers of people fleeing the kingdom

Trade & Transport

Praetora has trade with many nations outside Val'Kara, and an advanced road system. Though like most things, it's been hit by the civil war in a major way.

Education

For all the weaknesses of Praetora, everyone has the equal opportunity for upward mobility. Although the wealthy have an advantage, the opportunity is there. Especially in the military, where per tradition, nepotism is ensured against.

Infrastructure

The civil war has destroyed the infrastructure of Praetora, though the cities and forts still stand, they have been battered. New Rova still stands, though it pales in comparison to their old capital.
