Free City of Aera
The ancient capital of the Bengali people, later the Aerean Empire's seat of power, now the Free City of Aera stands as a thriving center for all cultures and peoples.
Structure
The Free City of Aera stands as a sovereign state in and of itself. Aera City does not designate itself as a nation in the same sense as the other kingdoms or countries on Aeris. The Neta, or leader, of Aera City leads the internal governance of the city, with different boards and councils making decisions in each city district. Average citizens can run and reach these higher positions of power as well.
Culture
Aera City is one of many flags and cultures. There are districts with more prominent groups than others, but overall Aera is as mixed as the face of Aeris itself. Aera City was originally inhabited by the Bengali people of ancient southern Sarasarada, and much of their influence can still be found in the architecture; as well as other aspects of city life. And although Aera became the capital of the Aeraen Empire, with it's own culture, Bengali customs stayed strong. In the modern era Aera City remains a beautiful patchwork of peoples and cultures.

Aera City, small as it is, boasts an impressive array of assets. Gold, ships, soldiers, all under the banner of the free city. Aera Cityis known for it's massive buildings whose beauty impresses dignitaries from some of the most gorgeous places on Aeris.
History
Aera City is one that has stood for thousands of years, rivaling Constantia in it's age. And due to this its history is far longer than that of the Free City in it's current form. The Free City of Aera was officially founded as a sovereign state in the year 3897 BGC after the Aerean Empire dissolved itself in Fergestvall earlier that same year. Aera City for all it's history has never been conquered by an outside power, and that has continued into the modern era. Aera City declares itself neutral in every conflict, and the Aera freedom treaty signed upon it's independence protects it from all invasion by all signing nations. Due to this Aera has become a neutral ground for many diplomatic meetings and assemblies. Notable events that have shaped the city post independence have been the Resource Shortage of 2020 BGC, in which the city was overcrowded and full of the starving. A monument was built to commemorate the loss of so much life. And it is not often talked about but the Free City's navy was present at the sinking of the Chorus. Another instance of military aid came during the Great Alliance War when the Aera City government provided the Tabaxi rebels in Sarasarada with weapons for their fight against the Dzugaar. Other than these few instances Aera City has stayed neutral and peaceful throughout history. Into the New Millennium they watch as the world's tensions build once more with the advent of great empires rubbing up against each other and others.
Demography and Population
Around fifteen million people live in Aera City, from all places, all walks of life, all species and languages. There is no other city of its kind, and as such hold a unique place in Aeris.

Military
Aera City has a formidable army, but its rarely used as Aera stays neutral in all conflict. Aera City's fleet does however regularly see action against pirates and marauders raiding their vital trade routes.
Technological Level
Aera City's place as being Aeris' heart gives it a very advanced level of technology as the meeting of many minds has improved it greatly. The intellectuals and great minds of Aeris often meet here to debate new ideas, or develop their new technologies in an open and free space from the more restrictive societies elsewhere.
Religion
Being such an eclectic city, Aera City is home to many religious groups from across the known world, worshipping all manner of Gods from both pantheons.
Foreign Relations
Aera City has good relations with most all nations, as often these nations have a portion of their own peoples in the city itself. Its a diplomatic hub, and as such seen as the heart of Aeris itself.
Agriculture & Industry
Aera City is home to very few farms, but their industry is vast. They get most resources from trade, and rely on their trade partners to feed and provide for their fifteen million citizens.
Trade & Transport
Aera City has long established trade routes and as such trades with all nations by sea, guarded by their thousands of ships.
Education
Aera City is home to many schools, and all have access to public education as well as higher education if they so choose.
Infrastructure
Aera City's infrastructure is closely maintained. Being a nation state and one single city entity, the upkeep of it is extremely important. As such the buildings, parks, and neighborhoods are well maintained.

Legislative Body
The legislative body of Aera City is large and varied. All aspects of government business are looked over each by a council, with a High City Council which reviews all prospect legislation. It's a multi-tiered system with many phases of review and ratification to try and best represent the needs of the city's people.
Judicial Body
There are two levels of court in Aera City. District Court, and the High Court. Each district of the city has a court, with the High Court standing as the final say if a case or matter requires such advanced review.
