History
Cannai are the children of Anu-Set, the jackal God of death. But despite their creator's grim domain, Cannai are a jovial, gregarious, and smart people. In the Archaean Age Cannai lived in many small packs around Aeris, wandering in hunter-gatherer tribes. The Cannai often came to blows with the early Tabaxi settlements. The stubborn and territorial Tabaxi were suspicious of the Cannai, finding their trusting nature suspicious. Sometimes these conflicts would end in violence between the groups. But during this time also the Cannai came across Humans. Cannai and Humans often found themselves hunting in the same territory, but instead of competing for resources, the Humans and Cannai joined together in living off the land. Cannai found humans to be excellent hunting partners. The Cannai's excellent sense of smell and hearing aided the Human's clever hunting tactics and ingenuity. And as Humans advanced their governments to better organize and protect themselves, Cannai could often be found joining in Human society. When Moraphan rose to power, the Cannai joined the Humans in fighting off the hordes of twisted folk. Most of the species was wiped out, many Cannai fought to the very bitter end. And in the long sieges that followed Cannai were indispensable. Their unending perseverance and loyalty helped them fight on even in the face of insurmountable odds.
Many Cannai after the Age of Blood joined the newly formed Empire, enjoying the order and hierarchy of society. A few Cannai packs stayed together, wandering, and trading as they went. And throughout the rest of history Cannai have sought adventure and friendship in many places. Though no formal Cannai governments have ever been formed, many become important civil servants in many kingdoms and empires throughout history.
