History

Long ago in the land currently known as wetlandia, their was a great kingdom on rolling hills known as qatzelak. It was known for its vast library of all topics, as well as its unique flora which grew in these harsh conditions and were said to gain their energy from pieces of dead spirits. On its throne sat 5 dragons one for each color of chromatic dragon. Zarin the white, was the most foolhardy of the 5 and often made foolish decisions which would bring famine to the dragonborn and kobolds who served him, yet the others did not remove him from power as he was a powerful pawn in their schemes. Bargules the black, was the most greedy of the dragons and had amassed the largest hourde and layer of the 5, he could be convinced to do anything for the right price ,or the proper meal, his domain took up nearly half the kingdom. Erakshas the blue, Was the master of the armies of qatzelak because of her insatiable desire for destruction, originally it was feared that because of her violent nature she would eventually turn on the rest of the kingdom, however when she chose to go to battle without permission from the other 4, she was injured, losing her ability of flight, because of this weakness the other 5 felt she posed no threat, even with control of their armies. She was responsible for expanding the territory of qatzelak to nearly incompasing half of Cloverdale and a third of blossomreach, before her armies were later pushed back. Reshin the green was the most intelligent of the 5 and often used Zarin and Bargules to achieve her schemes and while having a small hourde and no great political power, she easily controlled most of the kingdom while operating in secrecy, viewing the citizens of qatzelak as powerful pawns which she could use to her advantage. Darvocel the red was the most powerful of the dragons and the most knowledgeable of the arcane arts, she often rivaled the schemes of Reshin through sheer intimidation imposed upon the people of the land, as well as the other 5 dragons. The kingdom of qatzelak lasted for many centuries of prosperity with lack of peace because of the greed of the 5 dragons, Bargules especially. However the kingdom collapsed in on itself when Dravocel uncovered hundreds of Reshins schemes which would end in great losses to Dravocels hourde. To combat these schemes Dravocel poured her arcane knowledge into creating a artifact capable of gathering all the knowledge known of the world. To power it she captured a great scholar from another kingdom and trapped his soul inside the artifact, she then fed him all the knowledge in the library, and finally she replaced her own hand with the artifact. She named this the 5 crystal fingers. Using this power of foresight Dravocel was able to prevent Reshins schemes from taking effect, however the spirit of the scholar resented Dravocel and slowly gave her advice which led to a growing divide in the kingdom, leading to an all out civil war between, Dravocel, Bargules, and Erakshas, fighting against the betrayers, Reshin and Zarin. After a 30 years war, Reshin and Dravocel escaped the conflict, hiding in other corners of the world. Erakshas and Zarin died in the conflict. Bargules was the only one of the 5 who remained in qatzelak and he used the much diminished population of kobolds to provide riches and feasts for him, and the dragonborn to keep the kobolds in line and working. After several years the colony of Blackwater was established outside Bargules territory, however once receiving news of this new settlement he would send the dragonborn to pillage the city and demand that they sacrifice food or gold to him. Eventually an unlikely hero came to Blackwater to free them from Bargules. His words of inspiration led the villagers to take arms up against Bargules and his armies, the villagers tore through the last remaining settlement of qatzelak and burned it to the ground while the hero of Blackwater single handedly killed Bargules, who had grown to fat to fly away or even fight back. A majority of Bargules horde remains buried somewhat in the swamp, including the 5 crystal fingers, yet a sizable portion of the wealth was claimed by the people of Blackwater, which they used to turn their colony which was destined to collapse, into a essential financial hearth. The dragonborn and Kobolds try to rebuild their once glorious kingdom, yet with the new acidic waters of wetlandia caused by the death of Bargules, as well as the villagers of blackwater destroying their one remaining city, the only chance of reclaiming their glory is to find the buried treasure of Bargules.
