Background
Avalynn doesn't remember much before she woke up in Thorin's Rest, disorientated with a raging fever. She drifted in-and-out of consciousness for days before finally recovering.
The Oakenhearts - the head family in Thorin's Rest - later explained to her that she'd been brought to the town by a wandering apothecary, with Avalynn the only survivor from a village stricken with the plague. The apothecary had been responsible for healing Avalynn through her sickness. That, and the ever-present warmth of
Zara, the family's cat.
As she grew, she was plagued by recurring nightmares from the plague, although when she woke all she could remember was a terrifying sense of dread.
Avalynn possessed a strong will, sharp mind, and a passion for learning. With it, she turned her attention to the healing arts -- in hopes of helping others like the apothecary that saved her once did.
This need to help others also extended to other ventures. More than once Avalynn would return home, bruised and beaten from getting into fights -- all from standing up and protecting others from would-be-bullies of the town. In time, she developed something of a reputation amongst the other kids of the town (crazy redhead, ball-buster, etc) -- a reputation that has stuck to her to this day.
Personality
"I set very high standards for myself, and expect others to follow my example."
Avalynn doesn't see the point in trying something and giving up. If you intend to do something, do it, and do it well. She gets frustrated by people that give in to their weaknesses, or don't even try at all.
"It seems like I always try to strike up a conversation at the worst possible moment."
Socially awkward, Avalynn likes to try and break the tension in situations with a not-so-witty joke, or just strike up a conversation with people.
Ideals
"Every sick or wounded person deserves my help, regardless of the life they lead."
Avalynn cares about people, going so far as to put herself in harm's way to protect others. She will always try to see the best in people and is disappointed when they let her down.
Bonds
"I seek to learn more about the mysterious disease that destroyed my village, and the man that saved me from it."
"Nisa doesn't seem to take her studies seriously. It frustrates me that someone with magical talent would waste it so."
While only having met
Nisa in passing, Ava was immediately put off by how the
Fenrir seemed both obvious to how the world worked, and her lack of interest in her magical studies. Unless she sees otherwise, Ava doesn't feel she can trust Nisa with any serious tasks.
"Logan once escorted me safely through the Whispering Forest while I searched out a rare ingredient. I am yet to repay him for this."
As part of her studies, Ava required a rare ingredient from the
Whispering Forest. She was able to convince
Logan into guiding her to the cave in which it grew. It was fortunate that she did so, as he was able to fend off a fearsome beast that had made its nest there.
Flaws
"Memories of the horrible plague that wiped out my entire village still haunt me to this day."
