I am my Father's Son

I am my father's son,
for I laughed as he did,
I smiled when he smiled,
I was as he was.   My brother is my father's son,
he smiles when he smiled,
he laughs when he laughed,
He is as we were.   My sister is not my father's daughter,
she does not smile she beams,
she brightens my day when clouds come
When the grey makes the day bad.   She is not like us, she is my mother's daughter
my mother who cleaned scars when I fell,
who gave me the berries she had picked as a treat
She was her own soul, brilliant, shining, and free.   Now my days are cloudy,
I do not laugh anymore
I do not smile anymore
I am my father's son.   My father doesn't blink,
he doesn't look he stares.
For I am my father
and now my father hurts,   I look as he does now and I am afraid,
I miss my mother so much,
every day I remember less
and each day, she and I drift further away.
