Session 50

After the smoldering remains of Aubron's former home settle and the dust clears, Dain searches the wreckage to see if anything is left. A glint catches his eye and he sees the magic mirror lying under a pile of splintered wood. He digs it out and faces it away from him. He then moves to place the magic mirror inside his Bag of Holding, but after seeing the other party flee as he's doing this, he wisely reconsiders. Grim then takes the mirror and attempts to smash it against a wall, only succeeding in damaging the wall. So instead, Grim buries it underneath the house and covers it with very heavy rocks. Summer sees a shadow out of the corner of her eyes, but it is gone when she looks.

The party decides to head for the Dead Goose Inn, but about halfway there, Summer is ambushed by a Void Wraith, the shadow she was seeing out of the corner of her eyes along the way. Several types of undead then join the fray, clearly an ambush, and a fierce battle ensues where everyone except Grim nearly dies, including a new member, Eskall, whose Ogre Zombie rushed into the fray and began attacking the other undead, before he himself appeared and attacked the Graycrawlers harassing Icarus and Summer. The party is ultimately victorious, and several of them notice a dark blade now lying where the Void Wraith met its end. Grim initially wanted to take it, but Icarus beat him to the punch and swooped down, attempting to sneakily grab it. Unfortunately, the curse on the blade takes hold, stunning him, before whispering into his mind "Yes… KILL!" and turning the veins on his forearm black. Icarus tells the other party members about this and they react by restraining Icarus and tying him up, and then hauling him off to the Temple of Lys…

The party enters the temple after being met by the same priests they encountered on their last visit, who are briefly put on high alert by the Ogre Zombie attempting to enter the temple. However, they then see Eskall riding on its back, who explains that it belongs to him. They shout at him, wondering if he's the one responsible for the undead outbreak, but the party vouches for him. The party takes the tied up Icarus to the rectory to ask Lorrim for help, but he is unsure if he is capable, as he has never tried removing a curse before. He says that he would be able to the following morning after he prays to and beseeches Astix for the magic. However, unwilling to wait, Eskall casts Remove Curse, unbinding the blade from Icarus. Grim and Dain then cover the blade with a cloth and take it from Icarus, who becomes angry, cursing at them and telling them that they're dead to him. Dain then places the cloth-wrapped blade into the Bag of Holding. They free Icarus, who skulks off to make food for everyone except Dain and Grim.
