Session 42

The party immediately heads for the ritual room where they encounter Haldir. They surprise one of the cultists who overheard Dain attempting to cast Detect Magic and poked his head out to look. Haldir began casting a summoning spell after murdering one of the Humans in the ritual circle. After a few rounds, Haldir killed the last of the humans in the circle and summoned a Voidspawn Hunter, who didn't end up posing much of a challenge for the group. After the cultists were dealt with and Haldir was on death's door, a shadowy figure emerged from behind Haldir, which seemed to please Haldir, who greeted the figure and seemed to think this meant the end for the party.

However, the figure told Haldir how much of a disappointing failure he was, before unceremoniously telling him to "DIE!", causing Haldir's eyes to go white before he dropped to the ground, dead. He then ominously told the party about the dead who would wash over the land in the coming days. He promptly walked past the party non-chalantly. Shortly after, Neldena arrived, having sensed the Voidspawn, and asked the party about what happened.

The party went down the hall to the room with the vault, finding that now both guards were gone. There was no trace of the second guard beyond a nuclear shadow-esque silhouette on the wall indicating he was killed. They found the vault open and no trace of the dagger beyond an area of the altar inside which appeared to have a dagger-shaped impression where dust had not fallen. They did however find quite a bit of gold in the chest inside the vault.

The party looted Haldir's body, finding an Ioun Stone of Sustenance and some gold. They then went to gather the humans and Myriani from the cells and attempted to leave, where they were met with dozens of undead approaching that resembled the other bodies dumped in the cavern. Neldena used a Sunbeam to fry them all at once and guided the party outside, where they set off to return the humans to Fort Elden. Dain and Icarus decided to stop in Eldham so they could attend the trade festival while the other party members escorted the humans to Fort Elden.

An insurrection occurs in Eldham after the human-supporting Elves realize the Paragons have been absent for some time and they decided to riot, deposing magistrate Eldar and imprisoning him. An election is then held to determine who should replace him. Among the candidates: Haryk Enfir, Telmar Fadi, Andrel Selakiir, and Garrett Kincade, whom many of the human-supporting Elves were familiar with due to him being the community leader of the humans, so they figured at least one human should be in the race. Garrett just barely wins the election.

The party sent for Garrett at Fort Elden, explaining the situation in Eldham. Once he arrived, an inaugural ceremony was held to introduce him as the new magistrate. During this ceremony, Lys appeared, greeting him and delivering a speech rendering her decision to take the Elves' long lives from them as a consequence for their reprehensible actions over the last year and for depopulating the already endangered human community in Eldham.
