Session 38
General Summary
Dain decides to construct an outpost near the water supply for Fort Elden to keep watch over the water and prevent something like this from happening again.
Tamas says that he will be staying at the fort for the foreseeable future to protect the Humans there and says he will personally keep watch over the water supply for now.
Dain, not knowing how to track down who was responsible for the well poisoning, decides to head to Eldham to continue looking into the names on Merith's list. When they get into town, Dain comes across Grimlon walking through town, briefly having flashbacks to stories he was told as a child about the Ghosts of the Ashlands, before coming to his senses and realizing that he is looking at an Ashenfolk, or Grey Dwarf. The two get acquainted and Dain heads to the Messy Cushion after contacting Chandira with his Sending Stone and realizing she was already in town.
Dain speaks to Chandira about Sabine and Chandira apologizes for taking so long to get back to him, but the Wellspring eruption caused a lot of distractions for the Cabal, so they kind of forgot about it. She tells Dain that a powerful evoker by the name of Samira is on her way to Fort Elden to train Sabine and will arrive in 3 weeks time (Lysten 41).
Party members buy magic items from Chandira's shop.
- Dain buys the Aurum Primer, and Summer gives him money to buy the Decanter of Endless Water.
- Summer buys the Poisoner's Field Guide, and the Horn of Silent Alarm.
- Icarus buys Legends of Arak and the scrolls of Floating Disk and Find Familiar.
The players reconvene and decide to investigate Esta Fadi's home. Dain decides to stay behind because he isn't very sneaky. The players head over to her home and find it unoccupied. Icarus steals some food and spices from the kitchen and the others investigate the house. Grimlon finds letters in the desk in the study room that Summer translates and discovers are signed by Telmar Fadi. Eventually, Summer notices a thin line of light coming from the wall between the fireplace and bookshelves of the study room. The players eventually manage to move the bookshelf and find a wall behind it. Icarus on a hunch decides to press his hand against the wall and realizes it's an illusion.
Icarus attempts to move through the wall and nearly falls into a deep pit with spikes at the bottom, but is able to react quick enough with his wings to push himself back, and then jumps over the pit. The party follows and they go down a steep flight of stairs to a cellar where they find a solid blue glowing wall, which Icarus quickly realizes is also an illusion. He steps through and narrowly avoids getting hit by a ball of fire launched from the side walls. The rest of the party follows and they continue on into the laboratory room ahead, where Icarus moves into the room and is paralyzed by a sentry trap, which begins to emit an alarm noise. Summer shoots it with her bow, shattering it and Icarus recovers from the paralysis. Nervous about being caught, the party quickly scurries around the room and gathers anything they can find of importance, neglecting to inspect the scattered notes on the table, and leaves the home and heads back to the Dead Goose Inn. Among the loot recovered was a Potion of Gaseous Form, a Potion of Invisibility, a Scroll of Detect Magic, a Scroll of Disguise Self, a Scroll of Locate Object, and a Scroll of Blindness / Deafness. Summer also found a book that seems to be about Wellspring-Touched magic users.
