Gilaniten
Gilaniten is a very rare metal found only under the mountains of the Scablands off the western coast of Myr. It is a very strange metal which in its natural form, when found in complete darkness, appears dark and roughly 50% transparent. However, upon exposing the metal to bright light, it vanishes completely, becoming invisible. The opacity of the metal varies depending on the light level, increasing as the light level decreases. Seemingly the only way to detect the metal is the fact that it is naturally colder than the environment it is in, so a Vesperkin can pick out the heat signature of the metal against the background.
Properties
Material Characteristics
The metal is slightly harder than iron, and about 20% lighter. It has a dark color, like the night sky, but it is hard to make out because in total darkness, it is 50% opaque, making its appearance hard to discern. An ingot of Gilaniten weighs approximately 8 lbs.
Compounds
Gilaniten can be alloyed with other metals to impart its properties onto the alloy, but the amount it can make the metal transparent is directly proportional to the amount used in the alloy. No alloy of Gilaniten can become completely invisible like the metal on its own.
