Ettranite

Description

Ettranite is a teal-colored crystalline material which is exceedingly rare. It is one of the few Flow-interacting materials in Aellorah, and has the property of being able to generate tones which can cancel out charged Flow within range of the tone. However, producing these tones is an incredibly fickle process, requiring precisely calibrated instruments made of special metals. When these metal implements are struck against the crystal, they together produce a resonance which is the inverse of the tone produced by charged Flow of specific schools of magic, causing active effects to be dispelled, and any spells of those schools that are cast to fail.

Only a handful of sorcerers and Runesmiths in Aellorah have gotten their hands on Ettranite, so it is not well-studied, but it is thought that there are more effects that can be produced by interactions with other metals, but it is not yet known what these other effects would be.

D&D 5e Mechanics

Specific schools of magic can be dispelled or disabled by a tone produced by striking the crystal with an implement made of the following metals:

School of Magic Metal
Abjuration Petrasteel
Conjuration Zegrumite
Divination Skiantine
Enchantment Mustrium
Evocation Stormsilver
Illusion Safrium
Necromancy Akronite
Transmutation Shadesteel

A raw crystal struck with one of these implements will produce a tone for 1 minute which disables magic associated with the above schools. Existing effects will be dispelled, and spells of these schools that are cast will fail.

If a tuning fork made of Mithril is struck, it produces a tone which will shatter any Ettranite crystals within 10 ft.
