The Alicorn Creation Myth

Summary

It is widely believed that the alicorn is the ultimate creator of the cosmos, responsible for the existence of all space and its celestial wonders. According to ancient myths, there were once no distinctions between the unicorn and Pegasus. They existed as a single, divine being—the alicorn—when the universe itself was brought into existence. However, the alicorn eventually chose to split into two distinct entities, each with its own role and purpose in shaping creation.   The unicorn, representing change and the fragility of health, took on the responsibility of crafting celestial bodies. This includes stars, planets, and the vast cosmic landscapes of the universe. Its nature symbolises the ever-shifting, transient beauty of the heavens and the impermanence of life. In contrast, the Pegasus embodies vitality, good health, and the essence of life itself. With this gift, the Pegasus created life and civilisations, breathing existence into the barren worlds shaped by the unicorn and ensuring they flourished with abundance and meaning.   Central to this belief system is the concept of the soul and its eternal journey through the cosmos. Followers hold that every living being has two layers of the soul. The outer soul, or the "physical soul," is the tangible essence that connects a being to the material universe. Upon death, this outer soul disintegrates, transforming into stardust that returns to the vast expanse of space. This stardust is not merely debris; it is a sacred substance, destined to be collected over time and woven into the fabric of new celestial bodies or even future life forms.   The inner soul, on the other hand, is a deeper, more enigmatic aspect of existence. It holds the memories, experiences, and essence of the deceased individual, forming a connection to their life’s journey. The fate of this inner soul, however, is a topic of much debate and speculation among believers. Some argue that it too becomes stardust, dissolving entirely to merge with the universe. Others believe it ascends to godhood, a divine elevation that occurs independently of whether the gods of the pantheon choose to recognize or aid in the ascension. Another perspective holds that the inner soul undergoes reincarnation, taking on new forms in other living beings and continuing its cycle of existence.   Yet, the most widely accepted belief is that the inner soul is collected by the Pegasus to create new stars. In this view, stars are not just physical entities but are imbued with the memories and lives of countless beings, shining their essence across the universe. Thus, the cosmos itself becomes a tapestry of souls, a living testament to the perpetual cycle of creation, destruction, and rebirth initiated by the alicorn and carried forward by its divided forms.   This intricate belief system not only underscores the interconnectedness of all life but also provides comfort and purpose, assuring followers that, in death, their essence contributes to the ongoing creation and beauty of the universe.

Historical Basis

This creation myth, often regarded as a symbolic tale, is actually rooted in historical reality, though its details have been passed down and mythologised over countless generations. According to ancient records and oral traditions, it was the divine being Abija who first approached the alicorn, seeking its assistance in the creation of Aeldrithius. Abija, known for her unparalleled power and wisdom, understood that the alicorn was one of the few entities capable of shaping the raw materials of the universe into something as intricate and balanced as a living world.   The alicorn, revered as the primordial architect of space itself, was said to possess an unmatched ability to channel both the forces of creation and the energies of life. When Abija made her request, the alicorn agreed to assist, seeing in Abija’s vision the potential for a world that would become a jewel of the cosmos. Together, they embarked on the monumental task of crafting Aeldrithius, with the alicorn contributing its immense power and guiding Abija in the delicate balance of creating a living, breathing planet.   What makes this collaboration particularly significant is that it marked the final act of the alicorn as a singular entity. After lending its aid to Abija, the alicorn underwent a profound transformation, splitting into two distinct beings: the unicorn and the pegasus. This division was not a random act but a deliberate choice, reflecting the dual nature of the universe itself. The unicorn, representing change, fragility, and the raw creative forces of the cosmos, became the guardian of celestial formations, overseeing the creation of stars, planets, and the very fabric of space. Meanwhile, the pegasus, embodying vitality, life, and the nurturing forces of existence, took on the sacred role of fostering life and civilisation on the worlds brought into being.   The timing of this split is often seen as a pivotal moment in the history of the universe, as it signalled a shift in the cosmic order. Some scholars and theologians argue that the act of dividing into two entities was a necessary step for the alicorn to ensure the continued balance and growth of the cosmos. By separating its powers, the alicorn could allow each aspect of its essence to focus on its respective domain without conflict, enabling the unicorn and the pegasus to collaborate indirectly in maintaining the harmony of the universe.   For Aeldrithius, this division had a profound impact. The unicorn’s influence ensured that the planet was rich in celestial beauty and potential, while the pegasus infused it with the vitality and essence of life, allowing it to flourish as a vibrant, living world. Together, their combined efforts, guided by Abija’s vision, created a planet unlike any other- a world teeming with life, magic, and the intricate interplay of natural forces.   The myth, therefore, serves as both a historical account and a symbolic narrative, reminding the inhabitants of Aeldrithius of their planet’s divine origins and the profound collaboration that brought it into existence. It also emphasises the interconnected roles of change and life, embodied by the unicorn and pegasus, in shaping the universe and ensuring its continual evolution.
