Xumera

Domain of Death

  Xumera is the Goddess of Death, the one who waits at the end of life to sheppard the soul to their next destination. One of the most widely worshiped God due to the fact that death comes for all in the end. Some form of shrine or temple can be found in almost any city, village or outpost.   There are many reasons one would pray to Xumera. Typically this would be for peace in the afterlife, either for themselves or for loved ones that have passed. Less common reasons would be for help easing the pain of loss, or to be blessed by the cover of night and darkness. One might also pray for a comfortable rest ahead of a special day, or for forgivness ahead of a planned murder. Whatever the reason for ones prayers, while they do not receive signs they were heard there is never any doubt that the prayers are received.   Priests of Xumera are typically referred to simply as Sheppards. The Sheppards teach that Xumera is to be revered and not feared, as she is both caretaker and guide to all souls that pass. Funeral rights are completed by the Sheppards but often one would find a priest or priestess of Ahna will tell the story of their life first.    

Necromancy

  With death being such a revered part of life some would find it odd that Necromancy has become a degree of normal in many regions. Xumera allows the use of undead by those that would raise their bodies under specific circumstances. Commonly people are allowed to enter into a contract where payment is the use of their body for a certain period of time after they have died. These contracts can range from hours to years depending on the arrangement. The less common reason is if someone was killed in self defence, they are then allowed to use the attackers corpse for a reasonable amount of time, usually several days.   Whatever the case, this has caused undead to not be an extreamly uncommon sight in many of the larger towns and cities. To ensure bodies are being used responsibly priests of Xumera and even some of the larger cities guards will often cast Speak With Dead to ensure the cause of their use meets Xumeras requirements.
