Reckoning Day

Monas holy day. Record keeping and census.   On the first Saria of the month of Monadry each year the scribes, scholars and priests of Monas go out into the various villages, towns and cities to complete a grand census of the planes populous.   Any and all information is gathered and compiled into records that are then stored in the temple-library's of Monas. People's heritage and family's are noted down, along with where they live and their occupations. Earnings and property, livestock and tools. Any information that could be used at a later date is noted down.   People see this as a joyous occasion as it gives the general people a way to honour the God of Knowledge and are usually followed by celebrations late into the day and night. Food and stories are shared, and memory games and puzzles are played. All while priests sing hymns of praise to Monas.   For some though, the day can take a less joyful turn. As it is considered a holy day and the census is done as a form of worship, if it is found that there are inconsistencies with people's reports the priests will look to investigate. If it is then found that lies were made in a person's reports a harsh punishment is swiftly applied. Often this is in the form of a fine paid in either coin or parchment and ink. Other times a person may be required to serve a period in prison. In such cases it is common for the sentence to be reduced by completing scribe work and copying many books for the libraries.
