Mages Guild
The formal organization of arcane magic in the Kingdom of Andor. Wizards are recruited at a young age and guild membership is mandatory. Sorcerors are considered apostates and exiled beyond the Kingdom borders.
Political Structure
Children with magical ability are inducted into the guild by age ten as appreand are typically schooled at formal academies, located in the Kingdom's major cities. Strict discipline and intense education are used to weed out those who lack serious willpower or talent, and those are dismissed and purged of their magic abilities. By adulthood, those with real potential (known as "viability) are raised to the rank of Mage, and perform the more mundane magical tasks required by their settlements. Further talent comes with age and study, and those select few will graduate to the rank of Wizard, typically choosing a school of magic as their focus. The most senior wizards who find themselves proficient in multiple schools may, over the course of a lifetime, hope to elevate to the final rank of Archwizard. The Mages Guild is not regarded as a unilateral hierarchy, but the head wizards are commonly regarded as the four advisors to the capital cities of the Kingdom, each known as a Court Magus.
