Counter-Weave

One of the fundamental conceptualizations of the arcane, and an important spellform utilized by magisters of every order, a defense that is always important to consider in any scenario when two magisters face down each other in a battle of magicks. Also, and for the main, it is a useful spell-weave in dealing with heretical shamans and apostates.

Reacting to the shifting in the Aether as another individual attempts some sort of spell manipulation, you wield your appropriate color of manna, interfering with the spell-weaving process by whatever means would be most effective, forcing the target to let go of the attempt to form their spell.

This spell-form has no singluar symbol for what the manna will do, and instead is about getting the primordial force in question to allow you a very brief moment of internal control, to allow you to grip the power directly in a limited way, and shape the energy into a proper response to that which a foe is attempting within the Aether. One requests this merely by manipulating the energies, creating the scarred eye, a simple character in Arcanis, a small circle in front of your face, centered between your eyes, with a vertical line through it. The circle shall be but two inches in diameter, the line shall extend no more than half an inch from each end of the circle. Done successfully, this will grant you a brief moment of true power, a taste of true and primal elemental force, allowing you to shape an amount of raw manna with your own will and brilliance swiftly trying to in some way counter the spell-form another is trying to assemble in the Aether, to break it, fracture it, make it unuseable.

Effect

Casting TN: 15, Tier II: 20, Tier III 25

Casting Time: 1 Reaction

Target: 1 creature in the midst of attempting to cast an arcane spell within range of you.

Duration: Instant

Range: 60 feet

Basic Effects: Upon swiftly weaving this arcane interference, you interfere with your target's attempt to cast a spell, somehow interfering with the complex process of weaving the manna correctly. If the spell they were weaving has a TN equal to or less than the TN of the Tier of Counter-Weave you cast, it simply stops them from casting, the actions for the attempt are wasted. If the TN of their spell-form is higher, you have to roll an Intellect Defense Test against their Caster TN. If you fail by 10 or more, or roll a natural 1, you fail to counter and take damage equal to the difference in spell TNs of the appropriate element based on whatever the target was trying to cast. If you fail by less than 10, you fail to counter the spell-form, but the target takes 1d6 damage of the appropriate elemental type for your magick. If you succeed by less than 10, you merely counter the spell-form. If you succeed by 10 or more, or roll a natural 20, you counter the spell form and the target takes 1d6 damage of the appropriate elemental type for your magick.

Tier II Effects: Damage numbers increase to 2d6

Tier III Effects: Damage numbers increase to 3d6.
