Srathe
Srathe (su-ra-thae), also known as the City of Merchants, is a grand coastal city where commerce is king and fortunes rise and fall with the tide. Situated at the gateway to the East and home to one of the largest harbors this side of Aizidus , Srathe thrives on trade and negotiation.
Srathe is a nation-state ruled by a council of merchant houses that seized power from the previous nobles and monarchy in a violent uprising, backed by the common people. The King was overthrown due to his policies that stifled trade and his extravagant use of the city’s wealth to fund lavish feasts and grandiose projects that failed to benefit the commoners and the rising merchant class. The nobles that remain serve as spokespersons for foreign dignitaries and special events, but the true power lies with the merchant houses, both great and small. Behind the veneer of prosperity, intrigue festers, and those with ambition can find wealth or ruin in equal measure.
Srathe is a city where commerce never stops. Nearly every street is named after the goods sold there—Spice Row, Silken Way, Gemcutter’s Alley—reflecting the relentless pursuit of trade. There are very few places in the city where deals are not being struck, and whether noble or beggar, everyone is always trying to sell something. It is a smelting pot of cultures, religions, and races, as anyone and everyone could be a potential customer.
