The Scourge

During the wars that plagued the end of the last age the people of the city state of Daiacon were wiped out by a mysterious force now know as The Scourge. Historians are uncertain what The Scourge was as very little records remain from that time period.
Among the things we do know are:
  • The city itself remained intact. The walls were not breached, there is no sign of damage anywhere but in one building near the center of the city. This does not appear to have been an attack by an invading army.
  • There were no survivors. Every living creature within the city walls was killed. When a delegation from neighboring Etereen arrived to ask for aid in the war they were about to start, they found a city filled with corpses. They opted not to linger, fearing a curse but all members of the delegation died not long after they returned home. This cemented the idea that the city was cursed.
  • The area immediately surrounding the city and a large swath of the countryside, running west all the way to the coast, was devastated. To this day, it is unwise to linger to long in this area and eating any plants or animals there causes illnesses.
  • Daiacon was not at war with any of their neighbours but there were several conflicts in the region which they feared being drawn into thus they were rumoured to be developing some sort of weapon with which to defend themselves.

  • Travel through the Wastes is best avoided despite the increased time and distance involved in going around the area. Anyone attempting to cross the Wastes is strongly advised to bring their own food and water and not to linger any longer than necessary. Few attempt the crossing as spending too much time in the area frequently leads to illness.

It is generally believed that the people of Daiacon were attempting to master some kind of magic or elemental force that proved to be too much for them. The mostly intact ruins stand as a reminder that some things are best not meddled with.
