Curators

Curators are small to medium semi-machanical creatures created by the citizens of Nekharat. They were tasked with the collection, maintanance and distribution of knowledge in the The Grand Library. Additionally they are the only creatures left in Adatia that can create The Lexica Totam.   There are many different subspecies but all share some basic traits.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Curators consist of a metal frame, with clockwork cogs ticking within. Most of the processes are unknown, as Paramunth protects them from any curios scientist, but is is well documented that a White Xerak Crystal hiiden in the corpus is both the heart and the mind of the creature. Even moderate damage to this crysatl will kill or at the very least incapacitate the curator.   Four legs of hard metal alloys extend from the corpus, ending in claws that are strong enough to destroy solid stone, but also delicate enough to handle even the thinnes piece of paper without so much as wrinkling it. These apendegase are extremly flexable with their three joints, and in the case of the curator becoming flipped, simply switch to allow the creature to rise again.   Along the frame two connections can freely move, each sprouting a long, flexable duct of a strange alloy. One of the end has a strange clawlike protrusion with a hole in the middle. It has been observed that curators may abosrb energy from other Xerak Crystals with this claw, but the remains of thiefs that had broken into the Grand Library suggest that it may well be possible that they may absorb the energy within living targets.   The other duct ends in a small egg-shaped protrusion. At the center of the "forehead" there is a large spherical protrusion of black glass. Additionally there are multiple different systems on this protrusion, but aside from a meatl protuding from the top of the head, and a small hole on the underside there can be no generalization of what mechanisms are attached.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Curators have a wide range of strange seonsory mechanisms including everything from basic magical sensors to planar overlap detection. Certain sensory systems are universal for all curators. The first is sight. The large black glass sphere is on the "forehead" is the eye of the curator. It give the creature incredibly acurate vision, able to pick out even the smalles change in its enviorment, though it is quite lacking in depth perception, leading it to having difficulty determining distances without reference objects.
Show spoiler
Within The Grand Library the stone tiles of the floor and wall are all exactly the same length, negating this issue for the curators. Just as being able to move while their target remains stationary quickly allows them to accuratly estimate the size and distance of the target.
Additionally the curators seem to sport some kind of auditory sensor, though it is rudimentary to say the least. Curators cannot recognize sounds, though do react to the absense or presence of constant or loud sounds. They do however show no ability to localize the sounds in any way. Tests have shown that when they are presented with a room or area with a single source of noise, they will recognize the noise but be unable to find the origin of that sound.   The most important sensory system that all curators seem to have is some kind of communication system that allows all curators, or at least those in observable distance from any experiment that has been conducted to instantly communicate with one another. The methode of this communcation is unknown and does not require any line of sight or prior knowledge of the other curators within the area.
