Summer Camp 2025, Prompt 33: A visionary that changed the course of history
Dr. Annabelle Roman, Psy.D., Ed.M.
Dr. Annabelle Roman was the founding personage of the Academia Magic Education System in 1947. She worked tirelessly with the government of the United States of America in the 1930s and 1940s to study magic with Projects ENCHANTRESS (1935-1937), which was dedicated to finding the differences between magically-gifted and non-magically-gifted humans, and WITCHBOLT (1937-1944), which dedicated itself to the development of magical weaponry and classification systems. Only after Project TINKERBELL (1944-1947), a project of social experiments that was simply to figure out what to do with mages in a post-war state, was the Academia Magic Education System founded for children and teens who have manifested magical powers.
The Academia Magic Education System was decided to be overseen by Annabelle Roman as its headmistress and government liaison, as she was the oldest and most knowledgeable known mage in the United States at the time. The schools would be government-funded and their workers were considered federal employees from their founding until 29 May 1972, when the schools became a private institution/charitable organization.
History
Annabelle Roman's personal history was largely unknown until the summer of 1972 — a year after her death from natural causes — when the United States government released documents detailing her past as the Grand Duchess of Imperial Russia: Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanov. How she escaped the rest of her family's execution in 1918 is still unknown, but she had entered the United States under the false name Annabelle Roman, which she kept until her death. When Annabelle first came to the US, she was accompanied by another woman who gave the false name "Maria Tennison", and was later revealed to be Russian sniper Milena Tsarkovna. What circumstances exactly led to the two traveling together and even how the two met remain unclear, but the pair were described as being "close as sisters" during their first days in the United States.
