The Equalists

History

The Equalists emerged as a grassroots movement in response to the oppressive rule of the magocracy that dominated the world. Fueled by the desire for equality and freedom, the movement attracted individuals from all walks of life who were weary of the tyrannical grip of the ruling mage elite. The catalyst for the Equalists' formation was the stark social and economic disparities perpetuated by the mages, leading to widespread discontent among the disenfranchised populace.   The Equalists emerged in the 550 BU, when the magocracy was at its peak of power and corruption. The Arcanum, a council of powerful Archmages exploited the resources and people of the world, creating vast inequalities and injustices, and suppressing any dissent or resistance. The Arcanum also waged wars against other nations and factions, using their magic to devastate their enemies and allies alike.

Uprising

The Equalists gained more support and momentum in late 100 BU, when the ruling magical elites faced a series of crises and challenges, such as economic recession, environmental degradation, social unrest, and internal conflicts. The Equalists seized the opportunity to launch a full-scale rebellion against the magocracy, forming an army of volunteers and allies from various backgrounds and regions. They coordinated their attacks and operations across the world, targeting the magocracy's key bases, facilities, and leaders.   This rebellion sparked a global conflict known as The Unravelling War, which lasted for 100 years and involved multiple parties and factions, and nations. The war was named after the phenomenon of the Unravelling, which was the aftermath of a powerful spell disrupted by - The One - that tored Abroden apart.   The Unravelling War ended with the defeat and collapse of The Arcanum's rule, as well as the death or disappearance of much of the world's population, including plenty of mages. The surviving Equalists celebrated their victory and proclaimed the dawn of a new era of freedom and justice. Remaining wizards, mages, sorcerors and anyone with magical abilities were rounded up and persecuted over 3 years until the land was purged free from The Arcanum's influence. With barely any spellcasters remaining, the Equalists movement gradually died down to give way to a new world order of mixed Monarchy, Oligarchy and Democracy.

Legacy

The Equalists left an indelible mark on history, remembered for their courageous stand against magical oppression. The shattered world serves as a reminder of their sacrifices, and the remnants of their struggle can be seen in the ruins of the magocracy's once-mighty cities. The movement's legacy is both a cautionary tale of the dangers of unchecked magical power and a symbol of the enduring spirit of resistance against tyranny.
