The Tidal Pull

"When the oceans have enough of their dominion over us, they retract, and leave us be. The sands are exposed, and we can walk out as far as we can, until met with the ocean once more. Then, the ocean gets greedy. We got too close - we got it eager, and we pay the price. It comes back, and takes in more, and more. Then, once it has had its fun, it'll go back home. A cycle, and a nice one, at that. Sometimes, though - every couple months - the ocean gets rather tired of us all - and leaves for some time,"

- Excerpt from childrens's tome in Galahad's library.

Before the Lancein era in the Thevagon Isles, the micro-nations had one thing in common. They were all deeply in love with the sea. The most powerful aspect of the armies in this tropical region were their navies. Large ships were built, ready to explore everywhere that they could reach. It had come to a point that their stories and myths were being shaped, in order to encompass the sea. One common myth, especially in the region that'd end up being ruled by Lord Galahad, was that the sea was jealous about what existed on land. It wanted to be closer - just to see what it was missing out on. It offered an explanation of how the tides had worked, with the notion of faith, rather than science.
The battles across the Thevagon Isles, especially the ones against tyrants such as Malus, Vorbile, and Lancelot, had left thousands dead. When the graveyards were full, and there had been no place for the buried to rest, they had taken to their old tales of the Oceans. The ocean loved the idea of people. It enjoyed the passing sailours, and the journeying folk from each island. It'd certainly be willing to take in those that could not be properly buried. Under King Galahad's decree - the dead were to be buried at the next Tidal Pull, where the oceans would withdraw from the Thevagon Isles, giving them as much land as they'd need in order to bury their loved ones.
