Church of the Passion

When the Kraken appeared in Havere and disrupted life of the city and country, many people looked to the Gods for help. Others still, looked to other sources for their misfortune. These people gathered together and formed the Church of the Passion. Slowly their numbers have been growing throughout the city. Its main followers live in the Outer City, but lately more and more parishes are residing inside of the city walls.

Structure

The Church is lead by a mysterious priest who claims to have spoken to the Kraken directly. He has appointed others to head up local chapters of the church around the city of Havere.

Public Agenda

They are adamant that the people of Havere give up their apocryphal worship of the New Gods (Olastra is the major deity in Havere). They hold parades through the streets, protest at the temple of Olastra, and often preach on street corners. Their protests once caused a huge confrontation at the Citadel d'Havere and have been since banned from the premises by King Pierre Du Mer VIII.   The church and its members believe that when the city has repented of its sins, and rejected the the false God Olastra that the true Gods will remove the curse of the Kraken from the city. In the meantime mortalkind must live in this purgatorial state.

Assets

The Church of the passion doesn't own much. Rumors have it that they have a major meeting house somewhere in the outer city. Other rumors say that they've started to convert an old abandoned lighthouse outside of the city into a temple.

Mythology & Lore

In the beginning the Gods created Aasha. They sought a place where the beings they created like unto themselves could live and commune with their creators. For a long time the Gods and creation lived in harmony; mortals followed their Gods-endowed instincts. However, mortals became unsatisfied with their station, and in order to gain more power created the New Gods and established orders to control the hearts and minds of men.   The War of Ascension was between the faithful and the followers of the perversions of the true Gods. The Gods, loving creation, has allowed these perversions to continue for thousands of years, but these false stories and churches have completely upended the intent of creation.   Among these blasphemers is Margot du Mer who defeated the last remnant of the Gods' forces during the War of Ascension. Margot was a general for an army following a false God. Who after her victory at Havere established the false god Olastra to be the patron god of the city. Her tyranny destroyed the last remnant of true intent from the Royaume du Terdiore and caused that countless generations of mortals to fall from true intent.   The Gods have chosen this time to punish mortalkind for their sins, and reestablish their intent on Aasha. Now that the kraken has returned, they believe it is punishment for what Margot did so many years ago and for the sins of mortals.

Divine Origins

The church is lead by Edgar Rochette who claims to have met the God in a vision during a near-death shipwreck. In this vision the Gods told him that The Eight were false churches created by mortals to dominate and control each other. He was taught the tenets of the faith and was charged to spread this long forgotten, but true religion.

Tenets of Faith

  1. The main tenet of the Church of Passion is that the Gods, being entities of infinite power and knowledge, created the world exactly how it ought to be. Mortalkind is perfect as they are, and as such should behave in the manner of their own creation.
  2. Mortalkind has perverted the original intent of creation by creating laws and religions that change their own natures. By doing so, have replaced the intent of the Gods with the intent of mortals. This is sin and blasphemy.
  3. The purpose of man is to be happy - enjoy and relish in the natural desires of mortalkind. These are gifts from the Gods and serve some unknowable purpose. To follow our passions is to glorify Thier plans for creation.
  4. Only the actions the prevent another to fulfill their own purpose (happiness) are disallowed.

Ethics

The Church of the Passion believe that they one should live with unbridled passion - to give in to one's natural desires and needs. This is the greatest form of worship for those who follow the Church of Passion and the True Gods.   There are a few restrictions to this ideology. All actions must be mutually consensual. The purpose of mortals is to be happy, and to encroach on the happiness of another piece of Creation would be sin.
