Dovahkin

Dovahkin is a wide term meaning any humanoid race distantly related to dragons. Under this umbrella are the Dragonborn, kobolds, Cainen, lizardfolk, and half-dragons. All of these races are believed to have been descended from the first Dragonborn, but this has not been proved. All of these races have the common traits of long snouts, sharp teeth, scales skin, lizardlike eyes, and clawed appendages. Nearly all of their cultures speak some form of draconic, whether it be old draconic, deep draconic, high draconic, and eastern draconic.

Basic Information

Anatomy

All dovahkin are bipedal vertebrates with an additional two limbs used as arms. Their skulls have 4 holes, the eye sockets, the ears, the nostrils, and an additional pair that lessens the weight of the skull and adds an area for muscle attachments. Their teeth are partially specialized, often including canines, incisors, and premolars. All dovahkin have horns or horn nubs above their eyes, on their snout, and on their chin. Some dovahkin even have tusks emerging from their lower jaw. All Dovahkin's skeletons are made in a very similar layout to humans, but with more vertebra and elongated tailbones (often extending into a full tail). Their legs are also digitigrade, walking on their elongated toes.       Among their organs are an additional gizzard, occasionally a pit organ, and an Orak gland. The Orak gland is named after the archmage Orak, who first discovered it in true dragon and then found it again in dovahkin. The Orak gland differentiates between dovahkin. It is believed in the element-breathing ones, it is the gland responsible for the magical effect. In the aquatic ones, it is believed to act as an air sack to hold extra air and create buoyancy. Finally, in kobolds, it has all but disappeared.

Biological Traits

Dovahkin are incredibly varied. Golgein, as cave kobolds, are the shortest among them, being between 3 to 4 and a half feet tall.

Genetics and Reproduction

All dovahkin reproduce sexually. All also create an egg, but a few internalize the egg and then give birth live. All others lay their eggs in clutches of 3 to 10 (depending on the species).

Growth Rate & Stages

Different dovahkin mature differently but, with the exception of half-dragons, all hatch from an egg, all mature at around 10 years old, and all live relatively short lifespans. Kobolds are known to live to 120 but often are killed by something before they age that long. Other dovahkin rarely make it past sixty. Half-dragons are able to live 5 to 10 times longer than the mortal race they share their blood with.

Dietary Needs and Habits

All dovahkin are omnivores or carnivores, all eating some variation of plants and creatures.
