Leviathan
The Leviathan goes by many names, Leviathan only being the most common. Shipeater, doombringer, captains nemesis, and many more synonyms are to be found throughout Aars many cultures.
But back to the beast. The Leviathan is a ginormous animal, some supose they never stop growing their entire life. Considering nobody knows of anything that could be able to seriously harm them, this seems like a thought that can´t be dismissed lightly.
Leviathans live far offshore in the deepest, lighless parts of Aars oceans. They have the basic shape of a massive whale, but they have quite big heads with giant bright golden eyes and very - very - broad jaws filled with teeth of a lenght around 3 meters. Armed with said jaws and their massive size, they eat about anything they can get a hold of. In the stomach of a small one that was washed ashore near Olim scholars found parts of ships, a heavily eroded canon, giant beaks who supposedly belonged to smaller krakens, tons of various bones and some pieces of armor. Their skin looks soft from afar, but its incredibly durable and almost impossible to pierce. A leviathans fluke is so massive, it reaches the size of decent ship. Not many survive an encounter with one of these behemoths of the deep seas, since they eat whatever they want - and if a ship arouses their curiosity, there is nothing that can stop the creature from ripping the ship to shreds and prey on the poor souls that had the bad luck to cross paths with this swimming apocalypse.
But back to its looks. Their skin on the upper part of their bodies changes from dark green over turqiuse to blue and black, while the belly sports an ivorylike tone. The flippers are eliptic, or oval, with bones resembling a human hand. What has to be mentioned too, are the thick scales that cover most of the head of the beast, one of the few people who survived an ambush of a leviathan said that they shot 60 pound cannons at its head and the cannonballs didnt even left a scratch.
Most things we know about them are know due to some small ones who are washed to shore every few decades, heavily mutilated by what looks like something with tentacles. Some experts of the Arcaneum suspect that, in their youth, they seem to be vulnerable to Krakens and some other frightening creatures, but after they reach a certain size they become truly invincible, without anything that can match them.
Leviathanbones are extremly dense and have a weird oily shimmer, yet they are never slick and have a good grip, which makes them prime material for weaponhandles - if they weren´t so extremly rare and expensive...
