A Quick Guide to Aanrah's Notable Locations
The setting of Aanrah revolves around both the planet of Aanrah itself, as well as several alternate planes of existence that intersect with Aanrah's reality. This article has a quick summary of Aanrah's cosmic map.
Aanrah is not tectonically active, and though there is plenty of magma underground, there is not a molten core that comprises of a majority of its mass. Originally, Aanrah saw more extreme tides thanks to having three moons. Since the loss of two of the moons, the tides are more equivalent to that of Earth's, and habitable land for many races has become much more open. Much of the surface of Aanrah is habitable, though some extreme deserts and the far frozen poles see little settlement, even in modern days.
Aanrah is considered the 'default' plane of existence for the setting, and is where a vast majority of people live. It is home to all but the interloper races.
The Underground is home predominately to the fretiäkleldt and yamahaeyuyud, and is where the Underground Rail System can be found. Historically, its tunnels were one of the most important forms of travel when tides could be extreme, as it allowed potentially flooded land to be bypassed.
Deep in the Underground is where the plane of the Underworld intersects. Below ~ 1800 mi (~2896.82 km), tunnels in the Underground may fade into the Underworld, with the likelihood increasing until ~ 3200 mi (~5149.9 km), at which the Underground merges fully with the Underworld. At these depths, tunnels are unstable, and where the Underworld does and does not overlap Aanrah is constantly changing.
Like the other moons had been, it is impossible to reach Qǒsāhün unless Yālǐdǐ allows it.
The Underworld is largely compromised of tunnels and caverns created by often magmatic forces. It is known for usually being swelteringly hot and inhabited by hardy and often aggressive creatures. It lacks a surface and, as such, any concept of a day or night cycle. Time flows the same in the Underworld as it does on Aanrah.
At Aanrah's heart, in the deepest stretches of the Underworld's overlap, is Aanrah's Core. This mysterious place appears as a giant citadel-like prison surrounded by magma, and is home to Kūhuānuzaez - Aanrah's failed sun.
The Faerealms and Far Lands lack a day or night cycle - there is one sun that hangs unmoving below the horizon. Time's passage in comparison to Aanrah's can fluctuate - there are periods of time in which time flows slower, and times where it flows faster Similarly to the Underworld, the Faerealms (and more specifically, the Far Lands) can be used to travel to other realms of reality, though the journey is just as dangerous.
The World & Dimensions
The Planet
Aanrah
Created by the First Gods, the planet of Aanrah serves as the central location for the setting. The planet of Aanrah is approximately the same size as Earth, with a similar tilt. Unlike Earth, Aanrah has a perfect orbit and spin - it sees 364 days a year, which are traditionally broken into 20 months - 16 of which have 18 days, and 4 of which have 19. It has 24 hour days, and most cultures have eight day weeks.Aanrah is not tectonically active, and though there is plenty of magma underground, there is not a molten core that comprises of a majority of its mass. The Underground
Not a different plane of existence but still considered a 'distinct' space, Aanrah's Underground is a vast, sprawling network of caves and tunnels. From a legal standpoint, the Underground is often considered to start ~1 mi (~1.61 km) below sea level. The Underground is a difficult to map and navigate area - kingdoms frequently overlap, and the creation or loss of passages is frequent from both intentional mining and from natural events (earthquakes, wurms, etc.). Though magma and water pockets are found at any depth, water tends to be more common towards the surface, and magma tends to be more common deeper in.The Underground is home predominately to the fretiäkleldt and yamahaeyuyud, and is where the Underground Rail System can be found. The Solar System
The Sun
Aanrah's sun was created by Zwinwèlè, and though other deities may have it as their domain, Zwinwèlè is its true owner and creator. It has the same size and mass as Earth's sun.Gǒngbě, the First Moon
Created and ruled by Mǒrdén Ǒérù†, Gǒngbě was the first and biggest of Aanrah's moons. It was three times the size of Earth's moon, had the furthest orbit from Aanrah, and had the slowest cycle (36 days). It was home to the Gǒngběian shéngǒnshān, many of which would go on to become the yamahaeyuyud [after its collapse in the 4th Era.Qǐnǒnsénhérǒn, the Second Moon
Created and ruled by Ǐnéyālé Bhǒr†, Qǐnǒnsénhérǒn was the second and smallest of Aanrah's moons. It was a little smaller then Earth's moon, with a slightly closer orbit and rapid cycle (8 days). It was home to the Qǐnǒnsénhérǒnian shéngǒnshān. It vanished towards the end of the 14th Era.Qǒsāhün, the Third Moon
Created and ruled by Yālǐdǐ Rānā, Qǒsāhün is the only remaining moon in modern times and is the moon who's size, orbit, and cycle falls between the others. It's over half again as big as Earth's moon, with a slightly further orbit, and a cycle of 18 days. Like the other moons once had been, Qǒsāhün is shrouded in a cloud-like haze that obscures its surface from the eyes of those on Aanrah, making it impossible to see what goes on on the moon's surface. It is home to the Qǒsāhünian shéngǒnshān, who have not been heard from in centuries.Like the other moons had been, it is impossible to reach Qǒsāhün unless Yālǐdǐ allows it.
The Other Planes
The Underworld & Aanrah's Core
A alternate plane of reality, the Underworld is compromised of a network of tunnels and caverns that overlaps Aanrah deep inside the Underground. The Underworld was originally used by its inhabitants, the xeith and kīaezxīātl, to travel from their original homelands to Aanrah. The Underworld is unstable when not closely overlapping another plane, so traveling between worlds and realms of reality through the Underworld is a dangerous (but possible) endeavor. The Underworld is largely compromised of tunnels and caverns created by often magmatic forces. It is known for usually being swelteringly hot and inhabited by hardy and often aggressive creatures. It lacks a surface and, as such, any concept of a day or night cycle. The Faerealms & Far Lands
Another plane of reality that only naturally intersects Aanrah on Chísioa, the Faerealms is a strange land trapped in perpetual twilight. They can be thought of as a oasis in the middle of the Far Lands - inhospitable and desolate stretches of sea and desert in which locations like the Faerealms are dotted. It is home to the nuríians and meshaghti, both of which traveled from other 'oasis' in the Far Lands, and a fair share of strange and alien flora and fauna.
