Demonic Culture
Demons possess a complex and rich culture that humankind often fails to understand. In Zhenhai, demons are villified and reviled. In Garal, demons are regarded as aggressive neighbors to be carefully watched but treated with a level of basic respect and dignity. Demons have a tendency to view humans as weak and misguided, and therefore easily preyed upon or exploited.
Though the demonic realm of the Thousand Vortices is closer geographically to the heavenly realm of Vermilion Canopy, demons prefer to keep their distance from the more powerful beings and their machinations.
Culture
Shared customary codes and values
Demonic culture values strength - be it in the form of physical strength, cleverness, the influence of beauty, or other means. Demonic artifacts often focus on this, with poetic curses that act as a puzzle for those strong enough to overcome the challenge and access the power it protects. One such artifact is the Eye of the White Leopard.
Demons also value authenticity to the element from which an individual is formed. Each demon's power is shaped by a specific element (water, wood, fire, metal, and earth) and there is an understanding that each element is part of a great harmony and balance. Harmony is achieved collectively and not found in the self.
Common Etiquette rules
Aggression and posturing are part of normal demon interactions, even within family units.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Competitions are a common element of demonic society.
Ideals
Relationship Ideals
Demonic relationships emphasize the harmony and greater power individuals can achieve together, or refine within each other. Families act as an early proving ground for one's ability to survive and thrive - tests, conflicts, and competitions are a normal part of family life. Boundless loyalty is seen as fanaticism, though in practice loyalty among family and clans can stretch as far as any human loyalties.
