WorldEmber 2024 Homework
Well, I'm getting into this pretty late, but better late than never. Besides, Covid kicked my butt early this month, so I suppose I'm not doing too bad.
Anyway, this will be my first WorldEmber that I've done, and I apparently decided to go big or go home. Let's just hope I can manage it.
Week 1: Pledge Your Goal
My word count for this challenge is 25,000 words, a bit lengthy but I'm hoping that, given I'm doing this for a fanfiction story, I have enough of the original groundwork created to really flesh out the world in a way that the original just doesn't seem to have done, giving me a chance to reach that word goal regardless. In regards to focus, I'll try to stick to just the groundwork for the story I'm writing this for, but I know that I'm likely to deviate eventually, so I'll just keep it fairly nebulous for now. I'll have to get to the Meta section in a bit, since I want to get most of this written and published before the month is out.
Week 2: Prepare Your World For New Readers
I... have never placed one of my worlds has public, so I admit to knowing absolutely nothing about making my homepage user-friendly. This might be done throughout the month, just because of my inexperience and how late I'm getting into the month with beginning my prep. I have some blog pages open, so hopefully it won't be too much longer, but I still have a lot of work to do.
It really doesn't help that I know nothing of CSS, so... yeah. Here's hoping I can make something good, right?
Community things is going to be interesting to try and come up with, since I have no idea how to manage any of that, but I'll definitely try it out. Goodness knows there's some juicy things I have planned that could be worked in through those...
Week 3: On The Hunt For Inspiration
Luckily, I have Final Fantasy XVI available on my PC, and know how to work my way around the Wikia website for deeper information, so inspiration actually isn't that big of an issue. I also already have a Pinterest board and playlist set up, though it is more generalized for the original story instead of specific for what I'm writing here. I've worked with something similar before, so hopefully there aren't many issues presented.
Week 4: Harness The Power of Friendship
I have no idea how to find an online community, but luckily my sister has helped to flesh out the story itself I'll be working on, and will be a great help in keeping on-track next month. I do already have a good idea on when is best for me to write, thanks to previous experience with NaNoWriMo, so that will be less of an issue than staying on-track will be. (My mind tends to jump around between ideas a lot >.> ) And, well... fresh air, good food with family, and as few medical stressors as possible are how I plan on handling the rest of this week, though I still have a lot of work to do to get everything ready here.
Good luck with your first WorldEmber and reaching your word count. I hope you have a lot of fun! :D
