SUMMER READING 2025

10 Articles That Inspired Me This Summer (in no particular order)

Proto-dwarven Language
World: Dolvareth
(Language)
Tracking the morphology of a language is hard for me to wrap my head around, so I love to see examples of it in action. I liked the example for "Sea Fort", and I found this article really immersive from start to finish.

Sulfur
World: Age of Defiance
(Material)
I found the description of it being "as old as time itself, ... from sticks and stones to skyscrapers knows of this prolific substance" a great way add a poetic undertone to this well-known material.

The Veiled Spiral
World: Comhlaidir
(Formation)
I thought this formation was really well thought out and rich in lore. I enjoyed visualizing the different ways the terrain would react to the formation, and vise versa, and also liked the bioluminal cues used for communication.

The Despair Pocket
World: The Grix
(Location)
I connected with this one on a personal level because it feels like something born from chaos magic, and it immediately made me intrigued with the rest of the world. I love reading something that extends beyond the confines of the reality I built for myself through my ego, and the art which accompanied the writing was evocative.

Velvet Night
World: Eternal Lakes
(Law)
I enjoyed the folklore that was established for this law, particularly the formation of superstitions and protecting the livestock. The Lypoa parasite transforming the host into a chimeric wolf creature that retains some of its original features was interesting to me and had me picturing different ideas of how that could look.

Blooding the Soil
World: Rhapsody in Realms
(Ritual)
The title hooked me immediately and I found the descriptions intermingled in this agricultural celebration to be delightfully gruesome. I loved how the theme of resourcefulness and cyclical changes are highlighted in the mix of fertility rituals mixed with coming-of-age and marriage.

Oakhaven River Delta
World: Aquatica Homebrew
(Location)
I find the idea of a delta with constantly shifting channels, tunnels, and shifting sediment so fascinating, it evokes the ideas of how cataclysmic something like a glacier melting can be for our continents. I like that it has three established seasons, and describing the different channels of the delta as "arteries" felt powerful.

Reef Tethering Spires
World: Belerion
(Technology)
The image evoked of a reef overgrowing and engulfing its surroundings, requiring intricate (and immesively detailed) obelisks in order to keep it at bay- but not destroy it, speaks to an understanding of one of my favourite dualities to explore in fiction: the fragility yet destructive nature of life, and the sacredness of cosmic balance.

Eclipseborn Frenxy
World: Elaris
(Condition)
I love reading about eclipse lore , and I thought this condition was well thought out in terms of how the cultures and regions afflicted have adapted to it. The idea that it doesn't always afflict those born on eclipses, but some are more prone to it, keeps enough mystery afloat to make it feel folkloric in nature.

Centipede Queen
(Person)
I love giant arthropods and I love the notion of deifying them, so I thoroughly enjoyed this article - full of description, history, and the feeling of who this ruthless but revered Queen was. I particularly enjoyed the images evoked of the environment from which she rose.

Future Goals: A Pedigree of Moths

I'll continue building the basis of this world so I can then more easily weave tales and interlock themes.
I updated the Ambrosii and Threatening Valley with some new graphics and map.
Thanks to everyone for the likes and comments! I appreciate every one of them.

I am working on a VN for a story I wrote in this world that was kind of the basis for its creation. It takes place hundreds of years after the timeline I was writing my Summer Camp articles in mind. I also think maybe gameifying the Catu Samonii would be fun to do eventually, since this cycle is vital throughout almost all of the major events in this world.

There aren't any articles (or many) for when this cycle takes place. since it's in the 8th and 9th centuries, but I've been playing around with some of the intro scenes. I really don't know what I'm doing or what style I'm going to go with.
