Sapiens is a Second Class of the Mercatrix job path, and represents a professional who is pursuing a path in elemental science. Those with the Sapiens rank hold the position of Noble Profession L4 in their guilds.

Core Identity & Role

  1. What is the literal meaning of the title "Sapiens"?
    Sapiens translates to "those who know" are "the wise ones" and represents their focus on both academic and applied sciences.
  2. What is the primary role or function of a Sapiens in your world?
  3. In civilizations, they are inventors and visionaries who often spearhead research and tech advances.
  4. In battle, they take on a support role and mostly used to neutralize opposing magic as "anti-mancers"
  5. In rural areas, they are not as common due to the rank's reliance on access to technology for research. They may visit settlements to assess the terrain with expeditions, or more rarely, as priests for rural deities who need to be supplicated
  6. This is the lowest "decorated rank" which means the subject has been initiated into a guild and passed all tests for the Mercatrix profession. So while it is an esteemed title, they are often not put in leadership positions and work as assistants for higher ranks
  7. What specific fields of study does a Sapiens typically focus on?
  8. They focus on the fields of research, alchemy, elemental science, and Lithomancy
  9. Apprentice temple caretakers
  10. Assessing the makeup and chemistry of materials
