Norwallia
What are your non-earth-like geographical features in your setting?
- Inner Karkebi is a strange area because there don’t seem to be any trees and it is thought to be somewhat like the “North” (as in Sinderfall and higher) and there are indeed was a population replacement where tundra was selectively bred and cultivated in order to use the otherwise stable weather for foraging
- It is an extremely lush boreal forest, but the trees are all no more than knee high and there is nowhere to hide, and nowhere for all the latent energy to go
- It’s referred to as a the Chromlech of the West by the Dolomedes and other Attercops because of the lowland and stable climate, but sheer armount of burials that have given it a moorish and nightmarish inland - made even more spectacular when the sun or storm causes the Orwen Mountains to glitter
What’s the general “lay of the land” of your active worldbuilding area?
- The soil is very rocky and the entire area is covered in a tundralike groundcover
- There is a vibrant trading community along the coast of the fjord that separates Inner Karkebi’s Northern coast from Lug’s Ridge, having its own subculture and cant/dialect
- There have been some domains/territories built out but they have to either be really strategic or wealthy enough to have defenses, because the tundra flatlands leave little protection
- The Laudine Fjord separates them from Lug’s Ridge, their border with Eskern is all grassland and the Eskern Forest doesn’t start for a few miles in, though there are some Phelgmatic boglands to go through
And what is the climate or environment like, in your active worldbuilding area?
- It’s got an island climate but the mountain blocks a lot of the extreme weather patterns
- It rains a lot, and storms a lot, but has cooler summers and warmer winters
- It is still cold in the winter though, it is humid enough that with the mountain effect snow can pile up.
- They are probably also prone to the lake effect
Next, What is the ecosystem & habitat like in your active worldbuilding area?
- The snow (and flooding in the summer) is so much that they have constructed and entire shielded pathway between major locations, which is aboveground and made of formaldehyde resin. Often it’s the only way to travel through Inner Karkebi
- These routes follow old roads that were taken by the Deii (allegedly) when they were able to farm the land, and rail spikes are commonly found at crossroad places near places where the plastic has been damaged
- It seems like they may have been originally structured for something else, and not much seems to grow around them other than lichen which can be used for citron magic - this is very potent but forbidden
- There are a few wealthy farmers in the Seven Oldest Animals of Karkebi, families of Deii or An-De origin who revived grazing/pastoral animal forms and are semi nomadic
- Gron Mael is one of them (Wooly Auroch)
Finally, what natural resources are found in your active worldbuilding area?
- The snow can be melted into water, and depending on location can be rich in minerals - there are spring locations where certain affinities for elements can find great relief, such as brine pools, or iron-rich springs
- Lots of Citron Magic tools and feedstock - lichen and tundra paradise
- Although very rare, one of the few places you can get organically bred/grown meat
