Eskorpiuna - Eskorpiunas
Who are they and what do they look like?
- The Herdstalkers are a culture who often is at odds with the Sulyafuj, as they are also carnivorous hunters but have medically significant venom, due to mysterious circumstances
- They tend to be tall and well-boned
- Their skin is sometimes smooth, sometimes rough, and translucent
- Ranges from yellow-green chartreuse to brown, and even blue-black
- Their hands are double jointed and strong enough to crush human muscle and bone
- They have a lot of eyes, between six and twelve, and their night vision is incredible
- They have bioluminescence and are fluorescent in the dark, so they have to resort to ambush tactics to hunt
What are their senses or perceptions?
- Their saliva is venomous, even kissing one can poison someone
- Like with snakes, their venom glands can be removed but that will usually result in exile
- They have incredible eyesight in the dark
- They are very fast and their hands are strong, exerting a lot of pressure - unlike the Sulyafuj, they have enough strength to break petrified trash without extra magic or machinery
Where are they in your setting?
- Sealtland, but there are rumors that long ago one tribe migrated North with their Kylyon retainers, and Queen Mab is from this lineage
- They often engage in territory disputes with the Sulyafuj, and the Sindainox are immune to their poison, or at least some of them are
- There are some in Eskern and Karkebi, particularly the Guidgen mountains
How do they survive in their environment?
- They have enough strength to break petrified trash without extra magic or machinery
- They are nocturnal but not as sensitive to light as the Sulyafuj
- They have strong resistance to a lot of forever chemicals, which the venom glands break down, so they don’t need special irrigation and can take advantage of guerilla warfare among the rivers
- They are brutal survivalists
What is their general attitude?
- I have a matriarchy where certain men are chosen to provide offspring for the Queen and her handmaidens, they find the fertility cult that the Sulyafuj have egregious
- Women can smell which of their offspring (nymphs) are fecund and infecund, they can smell by the chemicals of the venom glands, and will eat the ones they feel won’t survive infancy or can’t reproduce. Their births are often traumatic as they will have around 20-25 offspring at once, though they are smaller than newborn humans
- They are vicious hunters and warriors and brutal to their enemies, often taking hostages and effectively enslaving them, or mutilating them so they can’t escape
- Like the Sulyafuj, they tend to get along with each other but do have decimation-type war games in times of recession
How do they feel about the other peoples?
- They will fraternize with the Gvaneti (their venoms cancel each other out) but usually have to keep to the forests and undergrowth because people are scared of being poisoned or becoming their slave
- They are bitter rivals with and hate the Sulyafuj, for the most part
- They have mixed feelings about the Coriniaid, and the Sindainox, because although they’re mostly immune to their venom, it can undo their transformations, or it can make them “real” faster, giving them organic bodies. This has led to some messed up experimenting and criminal activity.
- They see the Myacoris as food, and the Vespula as food, and as a result when they are defeated the Vespula and Myacoris will gladly use their bodies like trophies or parasites
