Equita Runara
Equita Runara is a Third Class rank denoting an experienced and advanced knowledge of an art or craft. They are licensed to open their own private guard or insurance service, and they are allowed to (technically, though generally not done) lead a leijon, but with a focus on calvary and species integration rather than infantry. They are allowed to teach lower ranks at this stage basic fundamentals. Equites Runarua are an intermediate rank of Gladia and considered a Noble Profession L3 . This rank is often the stopping point for the average soldier, particularly those involved in more generalized positions. Higher ranks require far more money, time, and dedication because they are for executive and leadership positions, or for specialized jobs.
Core Identity & Role
What is the literal meaning of the title "Equites Runara"?
Equita Runara roughly translates to "Rune Knight", but more accurately means "Equestrian of the Hidden", emphasizing their domain over working creatures and advanced, protected knowledge of terrain.
What is the primary role or function of an Equites Runara in your world?
Like their sister occupation the Crusatrix, Equites Runara focus on the physical welfare of the ecosystem and both working and wild creatures. They are often involved in law enforcement and are able to open their own firm similarly. L3 is normally the minimum level that will be employed in any royal setting, so many Equites Runara who do not want to be on campaign or run their own store, may try for a position at a palace menagerie or courtyard. This has earned some of them with cushier jobs the name "glorified gardeners".
They are considered veteran fighters, and often placed as rear guard or in specialized formations depending on magic use and terrain. They are crucial in expeditions, explorations, war, and any sort of travel as they are probably the best equipped to handle the unpredictable and often inhospitable land.
