Deii
The Deii, or De, are the descendants of a tribe of migratory moths who were cut off from their journey South by the fog. Their origins remain obscure - they are categorized as Milenakos, but they seem to be more primitive and ancient. They only began to resurface after coming into contact with the Three False Breaths (TK), giving them more adaptable qualities and the ability to shapeshift. It is possible they are the forgotten deities.
Who are they and what do they look like?
- Skin ranges from very pale to dark, darker in sunnier areas, pale for those who live in caves
- Yellow to white hair that reflects light and reacts to static, rarely some will have black hair
- Hair and skin are scaly, they shed skin cells like we do but heal a lot slower
- They seem to have compound eyes as well that are reflective in the dark
What are their senses or perceptions?
- Amazing low-light eyesight due to their compound eyes
- Sensitive to vibrations and slight air currents
- Highly developed sense of smell when it comes to plants and lichens
- Easily overwhelmed due to these overloaded sensations and centuries in the dark
- Many of the ones who survive and thrive are merged with Saesonaid
Where are they in your setting?
- Coastal areas and places where it is dark and cold but flowers still grow
- They still migrate seasonally and seem to have discovered how to turn into moths
- None of them have ever returned from migration though - but every nine years people still do it
How do they survive in their environment?
- They survive by acquiring viruses which dull down their overactive senses, particularly Coriniaid and Saesonaid
- They truly thrive through their ability to adapt when infected with viruses and exploit what isn't attacked by that particular virus or parasite
- They are extremely successful and thrive with this spark of "False Life"
What is their general attitude?
- Asocial and insular, do not like interacting with other species as a collective
- Many organize parties around catching parasitic species or viruses in order to develop the ability to leave their homes
- Most of those who interact with society are thus however, seen as body-thieves/soul-stealers, or they're seen as ruthlessly survivalist
How do they feel about the other peoples?
- They tend to be ruthless when they interact with other species, they are a lot more intense
- They seem to be able to access some generational trauma/memories that they won't share with others
- It is rare that they get along with anyone other than Coriniaid, which is how Armael is able to get them on her side
- Bel, Sheena's prophet and later a deity, is thought to have been based on Coil Hen, her father's best friend who was a Deii
