Blood King Law

The Blood King Law is one of the two cyclical eras which affect the population of the Island of Woad. It occurs in alternation with the Bone King Era, which instills different evolutionary laws and pressures onto the living creatures. It seems to mainly affect pressure on the genetic diversity of carbon-based life forms, the Milenakos, and thus the Coriniaid and other Nachkoma often benefit from it more than them. It is named after the deity Koidios, who controls the wilderness and forests, and due to his competitive nature and domain over warfare, is known as the Blood King in some cultures.

How localized or global are the effects?-

  • These effects are global, though sometimes influenced by other natural laws depending on the terrain and biome
  • It manifests and seems to stay in place for approximately 375 years before shifting, through the Indifferent Sun, to the Bone Queen Law

How does it look or manifest?

  • The Blood King is a law of constant adaptations, driven by the pressure exerted by other life forms and even the climate itself
  • It manifests often in a mass extinction event at the beginning of the new Era, where species (subspecies, subcultures, or communities) who have not sufficiently evolved to withstand the pressures of the changing laws

How does it affect plants and animals of your world?

  • Within the plants and animals of the world, the Blood King Era manifests as genetic bottlenecks, population decline, and imbalances in the environment as species adjust and attempt to survive with the introduction of new diseases, predators, and overall competition
  • Species then, for the next ~375, undergo rapid evolution and adaptation, completely reshaping certain landscapes as well as ecosystems and food chains

What problems or benefits does it create for people?

  • It can often completely reshape cultures and communities, as it changes their food sources, materials for shelter, and can even begin to affect their own genetics and population
  • Some can be positive - such as the Deii and Eresmo peoples adapting to become the Gannwyll Gwydd and essentially becoming the supremacists of the era in terms of resource management and adaptation
  • The Coriniaid and Saesonaid also evolved rapidly during Blood King Eras
  • However, it can have the opposite effects, such as how the Sindainox cultures (and peoples) were eventually replaced by other populations as they failed to adapt
